Background / History

Shrek Academy has existed for ten thousand years. Its founders include Flender, Yu Xiaogang, and Liu Erlong; the first generation of Shrek Seven Devils are commemorated by statues on campus. Liu Erlong’s family is said to have retained the academy’s deanship across generations. 50

Tang San left Sea God Lake and Sea God Island to the academy before ascending. One of the seven ancient Sea God Pillars was transferred to Shrek, allowing communication with the Divine Realm. 105 164

The academy joined the Body Sect, the three imperial royal families, and other sects in the “Joint Soul Hunt” attack on the Star Dou Great Forest. A Hundred-Thousand-Year Frenzied Sand Demon Ape died during the operation, though the Body Sect heir who obtained its soul ring and soul bone was forced to relinquish them. 28

During Wang Rui and Huo Yuqing’s enrollment year, the academy admitted both students despite an irregular assessment involving Tang Ya. Wang Rui’s threat to withdraw led the admissions teacher to arrange Huo Yuqing a second test. 47 49

After Beast Sect disciples enrolled, Shrek changed its second-year promotion assessment from practical Soul Beast combat to cultivation inspection and a written theory examination, avoiding a direct conflict over its use of Soul Beasts. 167

Admissions and Education

Entrance requirements

Applicants must provide a recommendation letter, verify their age and Soul Power, and complete sequential tests. New students at Rank 15–25 are treated differently from applicants above Rank 25; Wang Rui, a Rank 33 Soul Elder, was exempted from the remaining admission tests after verification. 46 47

Letters of recommendation are issued by city lords and can be purchased or forged due to limited anti-counterfeiting measures. Talented commoners may receive free letters, but must reach Rank 25 before age twelve to qualify. 46

Inner Academy

The Inner Academy is located on Sea God Island and is considered the academy’s true core; Outer Academy students commonly regard Inner Academy disciples as the only “true Shrek students.” 51

Its principal advertised reward is access to God’s Assessments left by Tang San. Only a small number of exceptional Inner Academy students receive Sea God Assessments, and participants swear not to disclose their details. 105

Despite this policy, Shrek has conducted Soul Beast taming experiments, including the confinement of a light-element Four-winged Demonic Tiger nearing Hundred-Thousand-Year Cultivation. Mu En ordered the experiments suspended after concerns about the Beast Sect arose. 97

Shrek does not hunt Soul Beasts on a large scale for profit under Star Dou Forest surveillance, but it purchases Soul Beasts for breeding and acquires Soul Beast-derived resources through other channels. 167

Shrek Monitoring Group

The Shrek Monitoring Group operates with authority across the three nations and undertakes missions against people it defines as Evil Soul Masters. Its mission archives contain records on Evil Soul Masters and other individuals classified as such by Shrek. 36 166
