Background
Tang Ya inherited the declining Tang Clan after her parents died and the Iron Blood Sect seized her family’s home and foundation. She vowed to reclaim the sect and restore its former glory, even while acknowledging that only she and Beibei remained in the clan 20 31.
While travelling near Star Dou Forest with Beibei, Tang Ya encountered Huo Yuqing and Wang Rui through the scent of Huo Yuqing’s cooking. She paid Huo Yuqing three silver soul coins for preparing their food and initially tried to recruit her into the Tang Clan, partly motivated by Huo Yuqing’s cooking ability 18 19 21.
Her recruitment attempt failed after she described Huo Yuqing’s lack of family as “wonderful,” following an earlier remark dismissing Aunt Rat as a potential backup soul ring. Wang Rui publicly turned Tang Ya’s phrasing back on her, and Huo Yuqing rejected the Tang Clan outright 19 31.
Appearance
Tang Ya was initially presented as a lively young woman, but her appearance became increasingly severe as her resentment and martial soul corruption deepened.
- Wore Shrek Academy’s purple senior-student uniform during Huo Yuqing’s entrance examination 47.
- Bore a partially healed scar on her left cheek after her failed soul-ring expedition 47.
- Later concealed herself beneath a cloak while travelling to Heaven Dou City and Sunset Forest 147.
- Her originally clear blue Blue Silver Grass darkened into sinister purplish-blue, developed bloody hues and cruel spikes, and eventually evolved into the Dark Blue Silver King 147 171.
Personality
Tang Ya is passionate, impulsive, and fiercely unwilling to accept defeat. Her desire to revive the Tang Clan is sincere, and Beibei admires her determination to preserve its legacy 20.
She is also food-motivated and openly gluttonous; she eagerly approached Huo Yuqing’s cooking, snatched freshly grilled fish despite its heat, and considered recruiting Huo Yuqing partly to ensure access to her grilled fish 18 20 21.
Tang Ya repeatedly demonstrates poor emotional awareness. Although she offers Huo Yuqing money and appears to intend help, her dismissive remarks about Aunt Rat and Huo Yuqing’s dead family create lasting hostility 19 31. Following defeat and repeated setbacks, jealousy, hatred, and obsession with revenge overwhelm her restraint, leading her to embrace the devouring nature of her martial soul 47 62 147.
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Grass / Dark Blue Silver Grass
Tang Ya is a control-system Soul Master whose Blue Silver Grass specializes in binding, parasitism, poison, and eventually life-force devouring.
- Her original Blue Silver Grass could produce vines to bind opponents and spread poisonous effects 47 48.
- Its Parasite skill dispersed near-invisible Blue Silver Grass seeds that could be avoided or scattered before taking hold 48.
- Her third Soul Skill, Man Sha Snake Net, formed a massive blue-black vine net with a foul poisonous smell 49.
- After embracing its hidden talent, Dark Blue Silver Grass gained spikes capable of piercing prey, draining blood and life force, and converting that energy into Tang Ya’s Soul Power 62.
- The devouring instinct grows stronger with continued feeding, eventually urging her to target other Soul Masters rather than plants and small animals 147.
- Its life-force absorption can heal her wounds during battle, though it could not neutralize the strange rainbow poison of the insect Soul Beast she fought in Sunset Forest 147.
Tang Clan Techniques
As Tang Clan Master, Tang Ya uses the sect’s movement arts, eye technique, concealed weapons, and storage tools.
- Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — Erratic footwork used to move through her own vines and attack from shifting angles 48.
- Purple Demon Eyes — An eye-training technique that improves Spiritual Power and mental resistance; Tang Ya used it to track Huo Yuqing’s Sleeve Cannon shots 47 49.
- Hidden weapons — Uses Bone-Penetrating Needles, Dragon Beard Needles, and other projectiles from her storage Soul Tool 31 48.
- Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon — A Tang Clan palm art capable of generating suction force 47.
- Limit: Her techniques were countered by Huo Yuqing’s Spiritual Detection, which let Huo Yuqing predict Tang Ya’s footwork, Soul Power circulation, vines, and attacks 48.
Fourth Soul Ring
Tang Ya’s fourth Soul Ring came from a ten-thousand-year poisonous insect-type Soul Beast in Sunset Forest.
- Raised her cultivation directly to Rank 43 147.
- Produced a powerful but unnamed Soul Skill that Tang Ya considered worth the risk of absorbing the ring 147.
- Did not grant the insect’s strange rainbow poison, despite Tang Ya’s expectation that it might 147.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Twenty-Four Bridges Moonlight Night — Storage Soul Tool used to carry Tang Clan concealed weapons 31 48.
- Bone-Penetrating Needles — Concealed needles used during the conflict with Wang Rui 31.
- Dragon Beard Needles — Particularly vicious hidden weapons used against Huo Yuqing during an academy assessment 48.
- Soul Tool Sleeve Cannon — Used during her attempt to defeat Huo Yuqing; its use caused a dispute over the examination rules 49.
Relationships
- Beibei — Her boyfriend and the Tang Clan’s remaining senior disciple. He indulges her food obsession, supports her ambition to restore the Tang Clan, and was seriously injured while protecting her during her third-ring hunt 19 20 47. Tang Ya left Shrek without saying goodbye, but wrote that she would always love him 147.
- Huo Yuqing — Initially a prospective Tang Clan recruit, later an enemy. Tang Ya’s insensitive remarks alienated Huo Yuqing, and Tang Ya subsequently used an entrance examination to pursue their personal grudge 31 47 48.
- Wang Rui — Antagonistic acquaintance who defended Huo Yuqing, mocked Tang Ya’s insensitive words, and later secretly ordered Bai Chenxiang to monitor her corruption 31 62.
- Lan Lingtong — Holy Spirit Cult’s Holy Son. He recognized Tang Ya’s struggle with a sinister Blue Silver martial soul and offered her a path of restraint, but accepted her decision to pursue power and revenge 149.
- Zhongli Wu — Great Elder of the Holy Spirit Cult and Tang Ya’s adoptive father. He seeks to elevate her over Lan Fuzi as the cult’s Holy Maiden 171.
- Feng Ling — Tang Ya’s adoptive mother and a Holy Spirit Cult member who later took her to the Iron Blood Sect for revenge 171 175.
- Lan Fuzi — Holy Spirit Cult’s Holy Maiden, whose position Zhongli Wu intends Tang Ya to replace 171.

Shrek Academy Assessment
Now a Rank 31 Shrek senior, Tang Ya volunteers to test Huo Yuqing during the academy entrance examination despite their personal conflict. Holy Spirit Cult

Brought before Lan Lingtong and the Holy Spirit Cult, she refuses to abandon Dark Blue Silver Grass and chooses power at any cost to achieve revenge, reclaim her home, and revive the Tang Clan 148 149.
