Background

Wang Yuan rose to prominence within the Demon Suppression Division through his exceptional talent and repeated victories over demons. At the height of his career, the Emperor personally bestowed the Demon Quelling Sword upon him and promised him a princess in marriage. His reputation became so feared among demons that they named him the Ice Demon. 203

Twenty years before the Battle of Mount Taiyin, Wang Yuan and his younger brother Wang Ma grew up alongside Zi Rou. Wang Yuan later chose the path of a Demon Suppression Envoy while Zi Rou left after becoming involved with a mysterious old man who sought to take her as a disciple. 203

When Wang Yuan met Zi Rou again years later, she had become a demon. Unable to fully abandon their past friendship, he initially allowed her to leave; however, she attacked him from behind, and his reflexive counterstrike with the Demon Quelling Sword killed her. When Qin Wei’s endorsement of Ling Yun causes conflict among the envoys, Wang Yuan mediates and deducts Qin Wei’s salary and team resources rather than allowing the dispute to escalate. 34

First Mount Taiyin Operation

Wang Yuan intervenes against the Ghost-Masked Buddha and the Ox-Demon Evil Spirit. He effortlessly kills the former, but can only seal the near-Fiend-grade Ox-Demon after determining that it is only slightly weaker than himself. 80 81

He meets Ling Yun following the operation, personally evaluates his potential, and offers him a position in the Demon Suppression Division. Ling Yun declines, and Wang Yuan respects the refusal. 81 82

Imperial Pinnacle Tower Incident
