Background / History

The Lion King was created after Bedivere failed to return Excalibur to the lake three times. Unable to die, Artoria took up the Holy Lance and became a wandering king; over the following 1,500 years, the lance assimilated her spirit into a divine state 198.

In the Singularity, she established and defended the Holy City while pursuing her own plan to protect humanity. Her forces cornered the Old Man of the Mountain’s people, destroyed strongholds, and hunted Hassan Servants, while the Knights of the Round Table sought to recruit or eliminate isolated Servants 150.

Before Mikaela openly opposed her, the Lion King encountered him while he was depleted of mana. Sensing a familiar aura and believing him capable of becoming her right-hand person, she spared him and sent an invitation to join her. Mikaela never received it because the Oath of Judas forgot to relay the message 154 164.

The Lion King is a youthful-looking woman whose body has remained at its physical peak for 1,500 years through the Holy Lance’s preservation. She rides a white horse in battle and wears armor, though she later removes her helmet before confronting Mikaela 183 194.

The Lion King is defined by extreme rationality. Having become a god in spirit, she treats killing, sacrifice, and military decisions as efficient steps toward protecting the humanity she values. Unlike King Arthur, she is described as nearly devoid of emotion and willing to issue orders for slaughter if they further her objective 159 167.

Despite this detachment, traces of Artoria remain. She spared Mikaela after sensing kinship with him, invited him to protect humanity at her side, and became visibly angered when he rejected her offer of magical power. She also retained a capacity to value “noble souls,” even while claiming to have no ordinary emotions 154 184 186.

Her meeting with Bedivere briefly restores part of her former humanity. Though she initially cannot recognize him, the Silver Arm and Excalibur awaken memories of Artoria, making her speak to him with genuine gentleness and ask him to return to her 198.

Conflict with the Old Man of the Mountain

The Lion King’s Holy City wages an escalating campaign against the Old Man of the Mountain, deploying the Knights of the Round Table and Purification Knights to destroy Hassan strongholds and control the desert region 150 153.

After learning of Mikaela’s power and his connection to another King Arthur, she warns her knights that war is imminent. She allows any knight to defect to the other “her,” but orders those who remain loyal to prepare for battle 159.

War against Mikaela’s Alliance

As Mikaela unites the Mountain People, Chaldea, Lancelot, Bedivere, and eventually Ramesses II against her, the Lion King strengthens the Holy City’s defenses and recalls the Purification Knights. She sleeps for extended periods to maximize the Holy Lance’s protection over the city 166 179.

She personally leads the Purification Knights onto the battlefield after Agravain creates an opening, confident that she can defeat Mikaela in a direct confrontation without King Hassan’s intervention 183.

Final Battle

The Lion King battles Mikaela and his alternate selves while Gawain, Mordred, Tristan, Agravain, and the Purification Knights defend her forces. Her lance, Grail-fueled mana, and divine defenses allow her to withstand multiple Noble Phantasms and coordinated attacks 185 189.

After Mikaela’s transformations injure her and drain her life force, she releases more of the Holy Lance’s power and manifests the Tower of Radiance. Ramesses II and Arash break through her defenses, leaving her exposed 194 195 197.

Defeat by Bedivere

Although the Lion King initially cannot recognize Bedivere, his activation of the Silver Arm restores fragments of her memories. She asks him to return to her side, but Bedivere rejects the offer and declares his duty to defeat her 198.

Bedivere’s final strike and the return of Excalibur resolve the crisis. The Tower of Radiance shatters, the Lion King accepts that Mikaela understands her, and she departs as the Singularity is resolved 199.
