Background / History

Ritsuka was raised by the Fujimaru family and knew Mikaela as “Sister Ella.” Mikaela stayed with the family for three years, cared for Ritsuka from her birth until she was three, and left behind three magical Cards representing attack, defense, and luck. The attack Card was accidentally used before Ritsuka came to Chaldea; she retained the defense and luck Cards in a protective charm. 114 122

Her parents had previously been saved by Mikaela while her mother was pregnant, after they were endangered by black mud in Fuyuki City. Ritsuka remembered Mikaela’s unusual powers from childhood and regarded her as exceptionally strong rather than strange. 112 204

At sixteen, Ritsuka was a student who regularly walked home with her childhood friend Touma Kazusa. She avoided blood-donation vehicles whenever she encountered them, instinctively hurrying away. 112

Chaldea forcibly recruited Ritsuka as its 48th Candidate Master because of her connection to Mikaela and the Holy Relic in her possession. She passed the Spiritron Transfer aptitude test, but her first simulated transfer overloaded her mind and left her unconscious. 113 114

Personality

Ritsuka initially regards herself as an ordinary person and is uncomfortable with being praised for that trait. She is nevertheless unusually accepting of Chaldea, Servants, and the reality of Singularities once she understands what is at stake. 114

She is intuitive and trusting, but not uncritical: the warning response of her Card leads her to suspect Reif before she understands his role. 115 Although visibly frightened in battle, she refuses to abandon Mash and willingly approaches Artoria to support her Servant. 123

Ritsuka is guided by a strong moral compass. Ritsuka enters Chaldea seeking Mikaela, only to learn she has been recruited as a Candidate Master partly because of Mikaela’s connection to her family. After the control-room explosion eliminates the other Masters, she and Mash are attacked by hostile Servants and survive through Mikaela’s defensive Card. 114 115

She summons Mikaela as a Lancer and becomes her Master. During the confrontation with Artoria, Ritsuka supports Mash directly despite trembling in fear, using a Command Seal to reinforce her. 117 123

Goetia and Reif target Ritsuka as Mikaela’s weakness. After being captured and threatened, Ritsuka resolves to protect Mikaela even at the cost of her own life, prompting Mikaela to burn her Spirit Core and openly declare war on Goetia. 123 130

Recovery and Growth as Chaldea’s Master

After the Fuyuki crisis, Ritsuka returns to Chaldea as humanity’s last Master. Mikaela chooses to remain at Chaldea to guide her, while Reif is assigned as her teacher. 136 138

Ritsuka clears the First and Second Singularities with her Servants, though Mikaela’s Holy Relics grant her access to numerous powerful summons. Mikaela later resolves to make her training harsher in preparation for greater future threats. 151 152 173
