Background

Shana was an orphan before being taken to the Heavenly Dao Palace, where she was raised and trained as the successor to the title Crimson-Eyed Flame-Haired Killer. Her education focused entirely on producing a Flame Haze Warrior who would live for the mission of maintaining the world’s balance. She later formed a contract with the Crimson Realm god Alastor and began hunting Denizens alone. 408 1406

She originally possessed no personal name. When Fang Li encountered her in Misaki City, he called her “Shana,” a homophone of her Ōdachi, Nietono no Shana. She initially accepted the name as unimportant, but later came to identify herself by it. 390 1403

Her defeat by Shudenan exposed the limits of her then-incomplete command over Alastor’s power. After awakening Crimson Lotus flames with Fang Li’s help, she concluded that she needed to train independently to become a true Crimson-Eyed Flame-Haired Killer. 418 419 476

Shana later reunited with Wilhelmina Carmel, who trained her in fundamentals, tactics, Power of Existence manipulation, and Outermost Dwelling procedures. After six months of training, Shana fully awakened her own combat style and the Inherent Skills of the Heavenly Calamity Fire. 1395 1396

Shana is a petite girl who normally has long, straight black hair and a youthful appearance. Outside combat, without her Flame Haze Warrior power active, she can pass for an ordinary girl. 413

Shana was raised to be a mission-first warrior who believed Flame Haze Warriors should face everything alone. Her pride in that role made failure—particularly a repeated failure—intolerable to her. 395 418

She is direct, stubborn, and easily provoked by Fang Li’s teasing or perceived condescension. She can be impulsive in battle, as shown when she used Sealed Heaven for a full-power spar and initially struggled to control her newly awakened flames. 398 420

Meeting Fang Li gradually changed her view of humans and of her own mission. Watching him fight Shudenan despite being human made her recognize that others can fight desperately for their own reasons, not merely because of a Flame Haze Warrior’s duty. 410 1406
