Background & History

Rem and her twin sister Ram are the final survivors of the Oni, a powerful but rare Demi-human race annihilated by the Witch Cult. Oni twins were traditionally shunned because each twin was born with only one horn, rather than the single complete horn expected of an Oni. 527

As a child, Rem regarded Ram—an overwhelming prodigy known as the Oni God—as an unreachable ideal. Believing herself talentless and inferior, she saw herself as a burden who had taken what should have been Ram’s second horn. When Ram lost her horn while protecting her during the Witch Cult’s attack, Rem internalized the event as her own fault. 527

Roswaal later took the sisters in, and they became maids at his mansion. Rem attempted to atone for Ram’s loss by mastering every household task and pushing herself beyond exhaustion, convinced she needed to replace everything Ram could no longer do. 528 529

While investigating a Curse Arts user, Rem was afflicted by layered curses that penetrated both her body and soul. Fang Li entered her memories through the curse, confronted her self-destructive guilt, and destroyed the curse with his Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. Rem subsequently apologized to Ram and began to accept that Ram needed her as a sister rather than as a replacement. 524 528 529 530

Afterward, Rem’s initial hostility toward Fang Li became trust and admiration. She accompanied him and Ram to investigate the curse’s source, witnessed his combat ability, and began to compare his unwavering resolve to Ram’s. 532 534

During the White Whale subjugation, Rem risked her life to hold back the beast and support Fang Li’s rescue of Emilia. Her determination enabled the expedition to neutralize the White Whale’s mist, though she was severely injured and required Fang Li and Felix’s help to survive. 599

Rem eventually confessed her feelings for Fang Li and devoted herself to serving him. After Roswaal’s defeat and contract with Fang Li, Roswaal formally released Rem from his service and transferred her to Fang Li. 606 1670 1757

She later entered the Main God Space as Fang Li’s Servant, where she gained access to its resources and was registered as a Fourth Level Mage. 1964 1965

Rem is a small Oni girl most often seen in a maid uniform. Her Oni horn is normally dormant within her skull, but manifests as a white horn on her forehead during transformation. 535 1805

Personality

Before Fang Li’s intervention, Rem was guarded, indirect, and highly suspicious of outsiders. She disliked being seen through and initially treated Fang Li as a dangerous guest who required constant vigilance. 515

Her defining flaw was a severe inferiority complex toward Ram. Rem revered her sister’s strength but believed her own existence had diminished Ram, leading her to overwork herself as a form of atonement. 527 529

After recovering from the curse, Rem became more open, emotionally expressive, and confident. She still works diligently, but her effort is now motivated by the desire to stand beside Fang Li rather than self-punishment. 530 1660

Rem is deeply loyal and protective toward those she loves. Her hatred for the Witch Cult remains intense because of the Oni village massacre, and she can become fiercely aggressive when confronting its members. 519 1805
