Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan

Yu Xiaogang was the son of clan leader Yu Yuanzhen and held the position of Young Sect Master despite his Innate Soul Power Level 1. His father repeatedly suppressed internal opposition so Xiaogang could consume enormous quantities of cultivation resources. 114

He became fixated on Gu Ziyi after learning that Gu, who shared the same Innate Soul Power Level 1, had reached Level 14 by age thirteen. Xiaogang viewed Gu as both a rival and an affront to his belief that Level 1 Innate Soul Power marked a person as worthless. 39

At age eleven, Xiaogang had reached Level 16 and believed he would become the first soul master with Innate Soul Power Level 1 to overcome the Level 30 barrier. He regularly had a servant gather intelligence on Gu Ziyi and Bibi Dong's progress. 57 66

His confidence collapsed after reaching Level 29. Even after consuming resources sufficient to train several ordinary disciples to the Soul Sage realm, he could not make any further progress. Concluding that the clan library held no solution, he turned his attention toward Spirit Hall's greater collection of martial soul knowledge. 114

Yu Yuanzhen publicly expelled him from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, citing his resource consumption, inability to advance, and the clan's mounting resentment. Humiliated, Xiaogang vowed never to return and to make his father regret the decision. 114

Spirit Hall

After his expulsion, Xiaogang travelled to Spirit City and requested entry into Spirit Hall. He pledged eternal loyalty to Pope Qian Xunji in exchange for access to the Library Pavilion's first floor. 116

Spirit Hall later appointed him as a Library Pavilion administrator. Seeking access to higher floors, he copied martial soul knowledge and secrets from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan as contributions. 122

He attempted to attract Bibi Dong's interest by presenting his findings on the declining number of soul beasts. Bibi Dong corrected his incomplete conclusions, explaining that returned soul power formed new low-level soul beasts and warning him against making assumptions without adequate understanding. The encounter humiliated Xiaogang and failed to advance his attempt to gain her favor. 122 123

Gu Ziyi eventually confronted Xiaogang at the Library Pavilion, forced him to acknowledge his reduced status, and warned him against pursuing Bibi Dong. Xiaogang then saw Bibi Dong openly embrace Gu, confirming that his feelings were unreciprocated. 131 132

Defection and Death

After learning that Sea God Island possessed inheritance trials that could raise an examinee's Soul Power Level, Xiaogang abandoned Spirit Hall without permission and sought passage from Vast Sea City. He hoped the island offered a way past his Level 29 limit. 138

Gu Ziyi classified his departure as defection, publicly placed him on Spirit Hall's wanted list, and pursued him with Ghost Douluo and Chrysanthemum Douluo. 138

The group intercepted Xiaogang's ship before it could reach Sea God Island. After Ghost Douluo killed the crew, Xiaogang begged Gu Ziyi for mercy and falsely claimed he had gone to rescue Qian Xunji. Gu executed him by cutting his throat with the Soul Bone Peach Wood Sword. 139 140

Spirit Hall did not revoke the warrant afterward, allowing outsiders to believe Xiaogang had merely disappeared while fleeing from the organization. 140

Yu Xiaogang was intensely ambitious and refused to accept that his Innate Soul Power Level 1 defined his future. Even while trapped at Level 29, he continued searching for legendary treasures, hidden knowledge, or outside opportunities that might allow him to surpass his limit. 57 114 138
