Background / History

Qingyun Daoist inherited leadership of the Great Luo Holy Land from his master, Wuji Daoist. Before ascending, Wuji entrusted him with the Daoist Canon Scripture and urged him to abolish his cultivation and restart with it. Qingyun refused, having already built his cultivation and political standing; after missing the ideal time to practice it, he passed the scripture to Lu Changsheng instead. 11 233

He accepted Lu Changsheng as his disciple and remained patient despite Lu’s apparent slow progress in Qi Training. He named Lu the Great Luo Holy Land’s Eldest Senior Brother, then accommodated the demands of his fellow sect leaders by allowing their descendants to study under Lu. Privately, he instructed Lu to assign extra work to the descendants of two martial uncles who had once tricked him. 2 4 11

When Central Continent leaders proposed making Lu the Daoist Eldest Senior Brother, Qingyun initially resisted letting other sects benefit from his disciple. He ultimately agreed on the condition that Lu visit the sects and confront any unconvinced disciples, then ordered Lu to descend the mountain for this task despite Lu’s reluctance. 31 32 33

His protection of Lu is uncompromising. After suppressing cultivators who attempted to ambush his disciple, Qingyun publicly declared that anyone who truly harmed Lu would be killed without mercy, while still permitting fair competition between peers of similar standing. 118 119

Qingyun later announced his own Tribulation Transcendence and passed the Da Luo Holy Lord title to Lu. During the ensuing Nine-Nine Heavenly Tribulation, he rejected Lu’s direct assistance, insisting that tribulations must be faced personally. He used the Da Luo Rebirth Art to recover from severe wounds and was restored by a drop of Lu’s essence blood, but eventually lost his physical body to the tribulation. He nevertheless ascended to the Immortal Realm. 218 220 221 232

In the Immortal Realm, Qingyun reunited with Wuji Daoist and joined the Little Luo Sect. Giant Spirit Immortal later sent him Golden Immortal artifacts and pills, but these treasures drew the attention of the sect’s Inner Sect disciples. Qingyun lost two artifact wagers to Lin Feng while trying to protect Wuji from further trouble. 232 261 351

While seeking opportunities in the Ten Thousand Immortal Mountains, Qingyun formed an uneasy partnership with Zhao Chen. His greed led him to touch a dangerous treasure, leaving him frozen in Great Mysterious Immortal Ice. Lu Changsheng later recognized this as an opportunity: he reinforced the mountain with arrays, accelerated time around Qingyun, and blessed him with the Three Thousand Dao Laws, allowing Qingyun’s eventual emergence to potentially reach the Immortal Emperor Realm. 401 407 439 482

Appearance

Following ascension and transformation in the Dragon Transformation Pool, Qingyun appears as a young, handsome, refined Daoist rather than the older man Zhao Chen remembered. 232 401

He is also shrewd, vindictive, and opportunistic. He uses Lu’s reputation to settle old scores with martial uncles, bargains aggressively with Zhao Chen over treasure shares, and makes Zhao Chen explore a dangerous mountain first under the guise of protecting Zhao’s interests. 11 401 407

Despite his scheming, Qingyun respects personal cultivation paths. During his own tribulation, he refused Lu Changsheng’s intervention and told him to preserve the Great Luo Holy Land instead. 220
