Background / History

Chen Yi created Heart Fire after realizing that his true strength lay in combining spirit with fire. The semi-transparent silver flame formed in his mind after he exhausted his Soul Energy in deduction. Its original Ember could be attached to fire to burn an enemy's spirit, while Purifying Lotus protected and tempered its wielder's spirit. Chen Yi regarded its creation as a fortunate breakthrough he might not have been able to reproduce deliberately. 67

A Skill Evolution Scroll later gave Heart Fire three possible paths: Incineration, Shaping, and Erosion. Chen Yi chose Incineration, reasoning that incineration was the essence of flame. The evolution allowed the formerly spiritual flame to exist in the material world and grow from a candle-wick-sized spark into a torch-sized flame in his mind. 96

Heart Fire became central to Chen Yi's combat style. By attaching it to Flame Sparrows and other fire techniques, he inflicted simultaneous burn and spirit damage over time. It proved especially effective against black sludge that distracted and killed other players, and it could persist on enemies until extinguished. 114

Chen Yi later began granting Heart Fire through blood-written contracts. Kijima Kaori's use of the borrowed flame to protect Yui and kill her attackers produced an unprecedented change in the source flame, causing Heart Fire's seed form to sprout and awakening its Good and Evil effect. 131 139

As Chen Yi's understanding of burning deepened, Heart Fire developed beyond a spiritual attack. It learned to burn emotions, gained illusion-based and soul-targeting effects, and became capable of treating substances such as soil, metal, and water as firewood under the concept of burning. 190 216 413

Appearance

Heart Fire usually manifests as a silver or semi-transparent silver flame. It first appeared within Chen Yi's mind, where it produced no heat for him despite making the surrounding area feel hot enough for the Fire Dragon to retreat. 67
