Soul Rings are presented as the principal means through which a Soul Master supplements and develops a Martial Soul. Each ring comprehensively transforms its bearer, while its Soul Skill provides an additional route for the Martial Soul to influence the body and break its limits 6.

A Soul Master's nine ring slots are treated as exceptionally valuable. A ring does not merely provide a technique: it contributes traits drawn from an external Soul Beast, shaping the bearer’s Martial Soul and long-term cultivation direction 41 370.

Su Ming's research increasingly challenges ordinary Soul Ring conventions. He develops arrays for deeper absorption, refines a ring's Remnant Soul, uses Soul Spirits to raise existing rings' ages, forges artificial rings from metal and Life Origin, and later recondenses a shattered ring with Abyss Energy 34 153 154 240 529 533.

Acquisition and Absorption

Soul Beast hunting

A conventional Soul Ring is obtained by killing a Soul Beast and absorbing the ring it leaves behind. The target's age, species, physical attributes, and potential Soul Skill must suit the Soul Master's Martial Soul 10 118.

• Soul Beast habitats offer different options; the Savage Beast Mountain Range is valued for its numerous top-tier bloodlines and mutated variants 10.
• Hunting an optimal high-age target commonly requires allies and connections, as a Soul Master may be unable to defeat a Soul Beast near their own absorption limit alone 11.
• A first ring's commonly cited limit is approximately 423 years; exceeding that threshold creates additional stimulation for the Martial Soul, but also raises absorption risk 8 11.
• Each ten levels is treated as a Martial Soul development milestone, with the corresponding Soul Ring assisting growth at that stage 11.

Absorbing beyond one's level

Absorbing a ring above the usual age limit can accelerate Martial Soul development beyond the expected rate for a Soul Master's rank. Repeating this process is described as producing a cumulative advantage across multiple rings 11.

• The bearer must withstand both the ring's physical pressure and the demands placed on the Martial Soul itself 11.
• Body Martial Souls possess unusual potential for high-age rings because their growth can improve the bearer's physical constitution in return 6 12.
• Battle Armor and Spirit-Forged Metal can further improve a Soul Master's ability to endure high-year rings by resonating with the Martial Soul and strengthening the body’s Soul Power system 171 491.

Soul Spirit-provided rings

Soul Spirits can provide multiple Soul Rings and continue cultivating after fusion, allowing their rings’ cultivation ages to rise alongside them 41 154.

• Advantage: A Soul Spirit's growth can directly increase the limit of its associated Soul Rings 154 530.
• Limitation: Multiple rings from one Soul Spirit reduce the diversity of traits obtained from different Soul Beast species 41.
• Spiritual Power limit: A Soul Master's Spiritual Power determines the age and number of Soul Spirits they can accommodate; Su Ming could not initially fuse with a Ten Thousand Year Soul Spirit despite being able to absorb a Ten Thousand Year ordinary ring 118.

Artificial and nonstandard rings

Soul Rings are not limited to naturally slain Soul Beasts in Su Ming's later research.

• Contract-type array absorption — Su Ming creates a Soul Tool Magic Array intended to improve the thoroughness of Soul Beast-ring absorption; Su Can estimates its effective range at no more than three thousand years 34.
• Forged Soul Ring — Ah Yin's Blue Silver Empress Origin, Ice-and-Fire Power, and forged metal produce a new Soul Ring when the metal is shattered 240.

Composition and Properties

Physical and spiritual portions

Su Ming and Dugu Bo theorize that a Soul Ring contains both a physical portion and a spiritual portion. Ordinary absorption primarily integrates the physical portion, which contains the Soul Skill, while the spiritual portion gives that skill flexibility and “spirit” 154 155.

• Repeatedly developing a Soul Skill may compensate for the spiritual portion that ordinary absorption leaves incomplete 155.
