Background
Village under the old system
Konoha was the leading village among the Five Great Ninja Villages and operated within the One Country, One Village System established by the First Hokage. Under that arrangement, the Daimyo held political and economic power while the village supplied military force. 1 129
The village entered a weakened period after the Nine-Tails Attack: Minato and Kushina died, many jonin were lost, Orochimaru had defected, and Jiraiya and Tsunade were absent. The later destruction of Root further depleted Konoha's strength. 34 58
Namikaze Mirai's administration
Namikaze Mirai became Konoha's Fifth Hokage after the war with Kumogakure, succeeding Sarutobi Hiruzen. His inauguration was publicly celebrated by villagers and strongly supported by the Uchiha clan. 83 85
Mirai redirected Konoha away from dependence on missions and Daimyo funding by developing industry, medical commerce, agricultural production, and military technology. 88 139
Republic of Fire
Konoha abolished the One Country, One Village System, killed the Land of Fire's Daimyo, and absorbed the former ruling structure's authority. The Land of Fire became the Republic of Fire, with Konoha as its capital and its sole political and military power; the former capital was redesignated as a commercial hub. 129 139
The Republic subsequently announced the Fire Federation, offering protection to countries that overthrew their Daimyo and adopted a new political system. 139 140
Ninja Alliance
Following the Fourth Great Ninja War, Konoha brought the Five Great Nations under its control. The old Daimyo-and-nobility order collapsed as the remaining nations merged into the Republic of Fire. 212 213
Mirai then established the Ninja Alliance as a federation intended to unify the Ninja World's resources and defenses against the Otsutsuki clan. By this period, Konoha led a unified world in which the era of independent major ninja villages had ended. 213 255
Government and institutions
| Institution / Policy | Function |
|---|---|
| Hokage Office | The center of Konoha's administration; under Mirai, the Hokage also served as supreme ruler of the Republic of Fire. 139 |
| Umbrella Corporation | A Konoha-controlled corporation founded at Root's former site to conduct research and development in military, medical, technological, and commercial fields. 88 |
| Umbrella Medical Company | A medical-market monopoly backed by Konoha; most profits were secretly redirected to the village, helping free it from reliance on Daimyo allocations. 149 |
| Red Cross Aid Society | A humanitarian-aid organization chaired by Tsunade that provided assistance to refugees wounded or sickened by war. 90 |
| Agricultural Production Cooperative | A project created to distribute Yamato's high-yield hybrid rice through the Land of Fire's grain merchants. 102 |
| Peacekeeping Force | An Uchiha-led international force established to maintain peace and eliminate threats to Konoha's order. Uchiha Shisui was appointed its head. 106 |
Cityscape and infrastructure
Konoha grew from a walled ninja village with the Hokage Monument overlooking it into a dense modern city of high-rises, expanded residential districts, and advanced infrastructure. 1 149
- Wide asphalt roads, skyscrapers, and extensive urban greenery were already visible to foreign Chunin Exam delegations. 180
- The main gate was automated and fitted with high-precision Electronic Eyes capable of facial scanning and information storage. 214
- The village's expansion consumed surrounding forestland for new construction, and its scale surpassed that of the former Land of Fire capital. 149
- Former Akatsuki members later regarded Konoha as the Ninja World's first modern metropolis rather than merely a village. 243
- Konoha completed a Moon Base and launched the artificial satellite Spark after integrating the Three Great Sage Regions and expanding the Ninja World's natural energy supply. 249
Economy and development
Hybrid rice
Yamato cultivated hybrid rice under Mirai's direction, creating a variety expected to significantly increase crop yields. Konoha used the achievement to establish the Agricultural Production Cooperative and enter the grain market. 102
The Land of Fire's resulting harvest was large enough to supply an estimated 70% of the Ninja World's population, making Konoha central to regional food security. 120
Medical and humanitarian influence
Umbrella Medical Company exported medicine that, while inferior to Konoha's internal products, still exceeded most medicine available elsewhere. This gave Konoha a foothold in markets across the Ninja World. 149
The Red Cross Aid Society extended Konoha's influence through refugee assistance, though rival villages often viewed the program as political expansion rather than humanitarian work. 90 121
Regional engineering
Konoha used the Hidden Rain Village's water resources to support the Land of Wind. Mirai personally broke terrain barriers to create a waterway, enabling irrigation and the development of new oases around Sunagakure. 178
Defense and technology
Uchiha Peacekeeping Force
The Peacekeeping Force was built around the Uchiha clan's combat ability and deterrent value. Its members were equipped with advanced ninja blades, tracking-and-communication badges, and other research-derived equipment. 106 167
- Commander: Uchiha Shisui. 106
- International role: Pursued rogue ninja, intervened in foreign crises, and protected states aligned with Konoha's new system. 145 160
- Heavenly Eye Network: Reconnaissance drones could upload information for rapid identification of enemies, including their identities, abilities, and backgrounds. 167
Modern warfare forces
Konoha replaced much of traditional ninja warfare with firearms, reconnaissance systems, missiles, and mechanized weapons. 71 198 199
- Hyuga Sniper Unit — Combined Byakugan reconnaissance with firearms to ambush enemy formations at long range. 131
- Drones and artillery — Used against the Shinobi Alliance alongside sniper fire and missile barrages. 198 199
- Gundams — Deployed during the Fourth Great Ninja War; Sasori's Unit-01 was among the machines that overwhelmed the alliance's forces. 178 199
- Sword of Damocles — An airborne fortress armed with an energy beam powerful enough to destroy Hidden Cloud Village. 207
- Nuclear weaponry — Mirai's nuclear explosion in the southeastern waters of the Land of Water became the decisive deterrent that compelled Hidden Stone Village to surrender. 212
