Background / History

Naruto is the son of Namikaze Minato, the Fourth Hokage, and Uzumaki Kushina. Though born into the Namikaze family, he bears the Uzumaki name to preserve Kushina’s nearly extinguished lineage; Mirai considers Naruto both the continuation of the Uzumaki political legacy and the Namikaze bloodline. 7

As a toddler, Naruto is ostracized by Konoha’s villagers because he contains the Nine-Tails. He is insulted, bullied, and denied a fox mask by a shopkeeper until Namikaze Mirai returns to the village and intervenes, introducing himself as Naruto’s uncle. 1

Mirai becomes Naruto’s guardian and most reliable source of affection. His presence gives Naruto a home, restores Minato’s assets, and gradually allows Naruto to regain the energy and confidence expected of a child his age. 4 11 28
