Nature and Composition

• The Cosmic Sea is an apparently boundless expanse containing countless universes, which arise and perish “like bubbles.” Its true extent cannot be crossed even by Cosmic Level beings over their lifetimes 309 330.
• It is saturated with innumerable useless substances, creating a quagmire-like resistance even for Cosmic Level cultivators. These materials include dust from annihilated universes and matter ejected by universes; rare treasures may emerge from their long accumulation 309.
• Although described as endless, the Cosmic Sea is identified as a plane. It possesses an Origin, a protective planar membrane, rules, and an inherent will that can resist threats to its balance 330 332 369.
• Its outer regions are linked to the River of Time and Space, whose tidal surges can strike and breach the Cosmic Sea’s planar barrier 331 369.

Origin and Will

The Cosmic Sea’s Origin acts to preserve the plane’s balance and rules. When Ji Qing attempted to evolve a Perfect Universe, the Origin generated overwhelming resistance that pressed upon both him and the nascent universe as though the entire Cosmic Sea had become his enemy 330.

Ji Qing overcame this resistance through his accumulated destiny and completed the Perfect Universe’s formation. The Cosmic Sea subsequently bestowed a wisp of its Origin upon the new universe, an unprecedented event even Ultimate Realm cultivators had not received 330.

By the time Ji Qing became a Stage Four God, he could establish a deep resonance with the Cosmic Sea’s Origin and perceive its universal births and deaths, energy flow, and rule structure. He found that its Great Dao pressure could no longer temper his Mind 372.

Inhabitants and Cultivation

Cosmic Level

“Cosmic Level” is a collective designation for powerhouses from different cultivation systems whose strength allows them to venture into the Cosmic Sea. Immortal Emperors, Sovereigns, Realm Lords, and Dao Provers are all included under this term 309.

• Cultivators below Cosmic Level are considered unqualified to explore the Cosmic Sea 309.
• Cosmic Level power remains inadequate against certain native threats, particularly Cosmic Giant Beasts 309 311.

Ultimate Realm

Ultimate Realm cultivators partially merge with the Cosmic Sea’s Origin. Their life essence is comparable to that of First-Order Gods, but their integration with the plane lets them mobilize power vastly exceeding ordinary First-Order Gods while within the Cosmic Sea 352 353.

• They prosper and perish alongside the Cosmic Sea, making its destruction a direct threat to their Dao foundations and lives 370.
• Outside the Cosmic Sea, the plane-derived power available to Ultimate Realm cultivators is greatly weakened or lost 352.
• Ji Qing later offers to sever the Heavenly Inquiry City Lord’s connection to the Cosmic Sea Origin, though doing so would reduce the City Lord to First-Order God level and require him to cultivate anew 372.

Cosmic Giant Beasts

Cosmic Giant Beasts are beings of inconceivable scale; the Origin Devouring Giant Beast is described as larger than the Immortal Realm itself, potentially even surpassing many universes 309.

• The Origin Devouring Giant Beast can consume a universe’s Origin, permanently diminishing it unless replenished by supreme treasures 311.
• Immortal Emperors, Realm Lords, and Dao Provers initially failed to stop it in the Cosmic Sea 309.
• Ji Qing could repel it only after becoming a Dao Ancestor and drawing upon the Immortal Realm’s power; he lacked confidence in defeating it while in the Cosmic Sea itself 311.

Graveyard of Time and Space

The Graveyard of Time and Space is one of the Cosmic Sea’s ten great secret realms. Its distorted time and space can reveal fragmented past and future scenes, and may allow entrants to experience eons of change 315.

• It is associated with legacies of beings beyond the Primeval Realm and fallen Primeval Realm Venerables 315.
• Its time-space inversion cycles draw Sovereigns, Lords, Half-step Primeval cultivators, and Primeval Realm Venerables from across the Cosmic Sea 315.
• The River of Time and Space within the Graveyard can lead to the independent Time-Space Secret Realm 331 332.

Time-Space Tide

The Time-Space Tide is a periodic upheaval originating from the River of Time and Space. It affects planes broadly and can carry treasures, inheritances, alien beasts, and hostile cultivators across planar barriers 367 369.

• The tide that struck the Cosmic Sea was exceptionally large, tearing through the planar membrane and flooding the plane with chaotic energy, time-space power, shattered Laws, and strange treasures 369.
• It caused “energy rain” and “treasure rain” throughout the Cosmic Sea, allowing many cultivators to gain resources, lost techniques, or transformations in potential 372.
• The same tide carried Time-Space Insect Beasts, including Stage Four God Mother Worms, into the Cosmic Sea and triggered a major defensive crisis 369 370.

First Exploration

Ji Qing first enters the Cosmic Sea alongside Immortal Emperors and Eternal Universe Realm Lords to confront the Origin Devouring Giant Beast. He experiences its quagmire-like environment, discovers its vastness, and witnesses the threat posed by Cosmic Giant Beasts 309.

Perfect Universe Evolution

After cultivating over one hundred Great Daos, Ji Qing publicly attempts to evolve a Perfect Universe. The event attracts cultivators from across the Cosmic Sea and forces him to endure the plane’s spontaneous resistance before receiving a wisp of Cosmic Sea Origin upon success 329 330.

Bridge to the Time-Space Secret Realm

Ji Qing’s return from the Time-Space Secret Realm reveals a higher Life Leap system largely inaccessible to native Cosmic Sea cultivators. Ultimate Realm experts acknowledge that the Cosmic Sea lacks the environment and resources needed to reliably support the path to Second-Order God 352 353.

Time-Space Insect Beast Calamity

The Time-Space Tide breaches the Cosmic Sea’s membrane and introduces a swarm of Time-Space Insect Beasts. Third-Order Gods, Second-Order Gods, and Ultimate Realm cultivators jointly defend the plane while Ji Qing attempts a breakthrough 369 370.

The Ultimate Realm defenders draw upon the Cosmic Sea’s Origin to restrain a Mother Worm temporarily, but their intervention cannot reverse the collapsing defense line alone 370. After ascending to Stage Four God, Ji Qing destroys the invading Mother Worms and helps secure the Cosmic Sea against the initial calamity 372.
