Background

Ji Qing became a wanted fugitive after the destruction of the Ji family was attributed to him as parricide and arson. The accusation was false: he discovered Skin-Peeling Demon clones within the manor and killed one while attempting to save his younger sister, Ji Yao 3.

He fled Liang City with Ji Yao in a backpack, enduring public infamy while prioritizing her safety. In Anyang City, he forced Zhao Yungui to shelter her and threatened the Zhao family with annihilation should she be mistreated; he then remained nearby to watch over her in secret 4 14 15.

Ji Qing’s name spread through the jianghu after he publicly killed Du Chen, the Wind Chasing Blade. His reputation later expanded further when he pursued Poison Demon Ouyang Bo, placed a thousand-tael bounty for information on him, and avenged the victims of Great Huai Village 31 33 40.

Appearance

Ji Qing is repeatedly described as a handsome, young-looking man whose restrained bearing can still inspire fear in experienced martial artists. His attire changes with circumstance, including black clothing, a bamboo hat, a long saber, and later green or white robes 133 327 377.

  • His hair became completely white by the conflict with the Heavenly Mountain Sect, though he later concealed this distinctive feature 90 131.
  • He has appeared in a black outfit with a bamboo hat and long saber while infiltrating the imperial palace 133.
  • As a Giant Spirit Race member, he can expand into a giant form and return to normal size at will 209.
  • His Giant Spirit Race body initially reached ten zhang in height; his Stage Two combat form reached twenty zhang 209 222.

Personality

Ji Qing is cautious, observant, and difficult to intimidate. As a fugitive, he actively avoided crowds, monitored his surroundings, purchased intelligence, and understood when remaining in one place would create unnecessary danger 4 13 14.

He is ruthless toward enemies and institutions he considers irredeemable, such as the Heavenly Mountain Sect and the Dongyang Demonic Sect. However, his severity is tempered by a consistent willingness to protect the vulnerable, avenge the innocent, honor old friends, and assist those who have earned his trust 40 70 73 90 208.

Though often treated as a fearsome villain, Ji Qing does not pursue violence for its own sake. He showed restraint against the Dan Ding Sect’s Golden Core cultivators because killing them would provoke an avoidable conflict with their sect 172.
