Background

Chen Sanliang first emerged as a scholar whose manuscripts on mind studies challenged Jixia Academy's orthodox teachings. After a county magistrate sent the manuscripts to the Academy, it branded his scholarship a heretical path and ordered him to burn his books, publicly apologize, and permanently abandon scholarship. Chen refused, prompting a public Dao Discussion whose outcome would determine whether he could spread his teachings openly. 160

His early scholarly Fate was destroyed after he lost a Dao Discussion to Fifth Mister. His Righteous Qi extinguished, his soul suffered backlash, and he fled the Academy in madness. 212

Rejected by the orthodox scholarly world, Chen later entered the Demon Clan's sphere of influence. He accepted his Demon Clan heritage and sought the Ba Snake's blood to cultivate the Celestial Demon Transformation, leading Demon Beasts to seize the fallen creature's fortune. 351

Appearance

Chen Sanliang's appearance changes drastically with age, cultivation, and circumstance.

  • In the Northern Lands, he wore bear skin and rode a colossal wild boar at the head of a Demon Beast force. 351
  • During his rise in the Demon Clan, he became extremely thin, white-haired, and frail-looking despite his authority. 425 451
  • After reaching the Eleventh Order and forging a Divine Body, he appeared progressively younger, with faint divine light moving within him. 699
  • In old age, he was over 150 years old, with cloudy eyes and a visibly failing body. 1059

Personality

Chen Sanliang is fiercely principled and initially refuses to tolerate immoral people gaining knowledge, believing corrupt learning inevitably brings disaster. His refusal to compromise with Jixia Academy established the stubbornness that defines his later life. 160

His ideals center on education for common people and opposition to aristocratic monopolization of knowledge. He wants all people—regardless of wealth or status—to learn, read, and judge principles for themselves rather than remain controlled by powerful families. 546 547

That idealism is paired with ruthless pragmatism. Chen destroys academies, coerces or converts scholars, exploits enemy intelligence, and is willing to kill opponents' followers to secure his Great Dao. In Dao Discussions, he deliberately targets an opponent's Dao Heart through mockery, exposure, and psychological pressure. 546 760 766 768

Despite his extremism, he is deeply loyal to those he considers his own. His wife Li Yuxin's death remains a central wound, and his concern for Zhang Chen's safety and for the future of his descendants persists until his death. 492 547 1059
