"Is this where you're going?" The Goddess of Life's consciousness was in Ming Sui's Sea of Consciousness, watching her enter an unremarkable little village as she asked in confusion.
After being thrown into a small space by the Goddess of Life for an entire night of training the previous evening, Ming Sui was nearly falling apart. Who knew that after she came out, this great deity would say she wanted to investigate what had triggered the mark? Otherwise, she might still be summoned again. And so, Ming Sui gained a guest in her Sea of Consciousness.
"I don't know either. But the sect lives in seclusion, so it can't be too conspicuous outside," Ming Sui explained.
The Sea of Consciousness fell silent again.
Ming Sui felt that this great deity had not come out to investigate the trigger mark at all. She had simply found an excuse to come out and play.
Ever since moving into her Sea of Consciousness, Her Excellency had been asking all sorts of questions. From the soup dumplings, fried dough sticks, and soy milk they ate for breakfast, to the skincare products Tang Yunhua and Ming Sui used, made by Ming Zhen, to all the Hidden Weapons and other weapons on Ming Sui's person, as well as Tang Yunhua, Ming Zhen, and Tang San, who were traveling with them—she had asked about every last thing.
Then there was all the sightseeing. Often, she would suddenly go quiet halfway through speaking, only to return a while later and resume the conversation.
Feeling exhausted, Ming Sui could not help asking, "Your Excellency, don't you have these things over there?"
The Goddess of Life answered while racing against time to look outside, "No. The God Realm is very boring." Just after saying that, she seemed to remember something and hurriedly patched things up. "But not entirely. The God Realm has its own benefits. I just find this place novel because it's been so long since I last came here."
Ming Sui felt a little guilty. She should not have been so impatient, so she began explaining in greater detail whether sweet soy milk or savory soy milk tasted better.
That scared the Goddess of Life half to death. She patted her chest. She had let the truth slip out. Luckily, Ming Sui had not thought too much about it. What if she discovered that the God Realm was boring and became unwilling to take over?
They entered the village and followed the only path that could still be called a road. It was uneven and full of bumps. Tang San, walking behind, reached out to steady Ming Sui. Ming Sui openly leaned on Tang San's arm as they followed her parents ahead.
After turning a corner, they heard the sound of water. A small stream flowed down from the mountain, its clear waters tinkling and reflecting the sunlight. With a soul master's excellent eyesight, Ming Sui could even spot many little fish swimming within it.
They did not stop, crossing the stream and continuing onward. Tang Yunhua stopped before the grandest house in the village. Calling it grand was generous—it was merely the tallest among a group of short buildings.
She knocked on the door. It opened with a creak, revealing an elderly man.
"Uncle Shi, it's been a long time," Tang Yunhua greeted the old man with a smile.
"Oh my, it's the eldest young lady! The second young lady came back yesterday, but she never said you'd be returning. Hahaha." The old man recognized Tang Yunhua and beamed.
"I brought the children back for a visit. Yuehua is already back? I thought I would get here first." Hearing that her younger sister had already returned to the sect, Tang Yunhua became even more eager to go in.
Uncle Shi said no more. He arranged for someone to lead them into the mountains and sent word ahead to the mountain.
Beyond this ordinary-looking mountain lay the Clear Sky Sect.
The towering main gate stood quietly there. It had been carved from a single massive boulder, with marks of blades and axes still visible upon it, giving off a wild, primal air.
"Xiao San, Sui Sui, this is the sect." Tang Yunhua turned back and called to Tang San and Ming Sui.
"Whoa. Your sect is really hiding its strength," the Goddess of Life said meaningfully. "By your humans' standards, I can count more than ten experts above the Titled Douluo rank."
Ming Sui was startled. The Clear Sky Sect had so many Titled Douluo? Why had they not fought Spirit Hall head-on back then?
The Goddess of Life seemed to know Ming Sui's doubts. What exactly had happened back then?
As gods, they naturally could investigate such matters, but they were too lazy to do so. Ming Sui had nothing to hide, so she told her about the grudge between the Clear Sky Sect and Spirit Hall.
"That Spirit Hall of yours serves the Angel God, doesn't it? Perhaps they were worried that the Angel God's guardian would make a move." The Goddess of Life offered that single remark and said nothing more.
Ming Sui suppressed her doubts and looked toward several little black dots flying over. They were people who had sensed Tang Yunhua and Ming Zhen's auras and come to welcome them.
Leading them was a man who looked very much like Tang Hao. He wore a gray robe, had thick brows and spirited tiger-like eyes. Ming Sui thought, This must be Eldest Uncle Tang Xiao.
When he saw Tang Yunhua and Ming Zhen, he laughed heartily. "You got here quickly too." As he spoke, he flicked Tang Yunhua on the forehead, thumped Ming Zhen on the shoulder, then carefully examined his younger sister for a while. Only after confirming that she seemed not to have suffered any hardship, that her aura was solid, and that her strength had improved did he finally smile at Ming Zhen.
Ming Zhen winced from the blow. Damn Spirit Hall—his brother-in-law's fists had gotten even harder.
Tang Yunhua stepped aside, revealing Tang San and Ming Sui, who had been blocked behind her and Ming Zhen. "Big Brother, we brought the children too. We came back this time so they could get to know the family. Let's go inside."
"Oh, right. There are children too. Then let's hurry inside and rest. The sect isn't easy to find. The children must be exhausted from the journey." Tang Xiao's mind had short-circuited. What the hell? He knew about Sui Sui—Yunhua had informed the sect when she was born. But who was that boy? Adopted? Or was he some trouble Ming Zhen had caused?
Tang Xiao's expression instantly darkened.
Suppressing his anger, Tang Xiao brought the family of four to his study. He dismissed everyone else, had someone summon Tang Yuehua, then sat in his chair with a grim face and did not say a word.
Ming Sui and Tang San exchanged looks, both deeply curious. Why had Eldest Uncle—Eldest Uncle on Tang San's side—suddenly gotten angry? Hadn't he been perfectly fine at the gate just now?
Men really were hard to understand. Ming Sui felt deeply sympathetic. Fortunately, her father Ming Zhen had a stable temperament. Third Brother... Third Brother did not seem like the crazy sort either. Ming Sui glanced sideways at Tang San. Wait, what did it have to do with her whether Third Brother was crazy or not? Better see what was going on with Eldest Uncle first.
Tang San felt his heart jump at Ming Sui's glance and instinctively looked back. But Ming Sui had already turned away. What's wrong with Sui Sui? Did I make her angry?
"Has Elder Sister and Brother-in-Law arrived?"
A gentle voice drifted over. The door to Tang Xiao's study was pushed open by a pair of delicate hands. The first thing Ming Sui saw was a sky-blue skirt that rippled like water, embroidered with intricate and beautiful patterns. As the hem swayed, a beautiful face struck straight into Ming Sui's view.
It's Little Aunt! This must be the Little Aunt Mother talked about! Ming Sui screamed soundlessly in her heart.
Little Aunt's hair was simply tied up in a loose bun, and her face was free of makeup, yet she wore a perfectly measured smile. Her dress had no excessive adornments either; it looked like ordinary home attire. Yet Ming Sui felt that she truly embodied the phrase, "Even powder and paint would stain her beauty."
Ever since leaving Heaven Dou City, Tang Yunhua had not seen her younger sister Yuehua. Naturally, the two sisters had much to catch up on. Once they had finally calmed down, Tang Yunhua remembered the important matter.
"Big Brother, Yuehua, we came back this time so the two children could get to know the family." Tang Yunhua pulled Ming Sui over. "This is Sui Sui. Sui Sui, this is your Eldest Uncle and Little Aunt."
Ming Sui obediently greeted them, receiving pats and gifts from both Eldest Uncle and Little Aunt.
The anger Tang Xiao had barely suppressed at the sight of Ming Sui began rising again. Say it. Who was that boy? Say it.
"Xiao San, come here. This is your eldest uncle and little aunt." Tang Xiao and Tang Yuehua heard that introduction.
"Ah Zhen and I found Second Brother. This is Sister Ah Yin and Second Brother's child. That unreliable Second Brother of ours, you have no idea..."
Tang San watched as his eldest uncle and little aunt froze, their expressions growing increasingly dark. He tugged at Tang Yunhua's sleeve. "Auntie, wait." He gestured for Tang Yunhua to look at Tang Xiao and Tang Yuehua.
Tang Yunhua stopped speaking. Strange, what was wrong with Big Brother and Yuehua? She looked at Ming Zhen, but he too was completely bewildered.
"You said this is Second Brother's child?" Tang Xiao spoke very slowly, as though forcing out each word.
Tang Yunhua nodded.
"You said you found Second Brother?"
Tang Yunhua swallowed and glanced at Ming Zhen before nodding again.
"Good, good, good. Little Yun, tell your brother—when did you find him?"
Damn Spirit Hall! Tang Yunhua and Ming Zhen looked at each other, frantically exchanging signals.
You didn't tell the sect?
I was too excited and forgot. Didn't you send word?
I thought you might have other arrangements, so I didn't either.
What about returning to Calais City? Did you send a message then?
No. I was afraid the news would leak after we got back, so I didn't mention it.
We're doomed!
"You two. Together. Training grounds. Move. Now!" Tang Xiao gritted out.
Tang Yunhua and Ming Zhen were like a pair of quails as they followed Tang Xiao out to the training grounds to get beaten up.
Tang Yuehua had originally been both shocked and delighted, and she also resented her sister and brother-in-law for not telling her something this important. But seeing the two children looking this way and that, their heads swaying back and forth adorably, she could not resist reaching out and pinching Ming Sui's little cheek.
"What? Do you want to watch your eldest uncle discipline your father and mother?"
Ming Sui screamed inwardly. Aaaaaah! Little Aunt pinched my cheek!
"Calm down, Sui Sui. You're going to burst my eardrums," the Goddess of Life protested helplessly.
Ming Sui hurriedly apologized, then could not resist snuggling up to Little Aunt.
Tang Yuehua laughed at Ming Sui's antics, pulled her into her arms, and could not help rubbing and squeezing her. Then she looked at Tang San, and her eyes reddened.
Ming Sui could not bear to see Little Aunt sad. She immediately glared at Tang San and signaled fiercely with her eyes. What's going on? Hurry up and comfort her!
Tang San was dumbfounded. He and Sui Sui ate together, lived together, fought together. They had endured scoldings together and fought soul beasts together. They were Shrek's twin commanders and the twin cores of its tactics. Yet because of a little aunt they had only just met, they had turned against each other?
He could not help looking at Ming Sui, trying to make her come to her senses. How had he never noticed that Sui Sui cared so much about appearances? This was troubling. Tang San could only be called not ugly. He was definitely not handsome!
Tang Yuehua had no idea what kind of soul-shattering exchange was taking place between the two children. She merely looked at Tang San and thought of her second brother and second sister-in-law. Back then, her second brother had been handsome and powerful, while her second sister-in-law wielded a whip with astonishing skill and had been a rare beauty.
This child... well, his eyebrows were eyebrows, and his eyes were eyes. Hiss—this child did not resemble Second Brother or Second Sister-in-Law at all!
Tang Yuehua's emotions shattered into pieces from that shocking discovery.
