Background and History

Spirit Hall was originally associated with the Angel God and was once remembered as a force for fairness and justice. Its popes supported common-born Spirit Masters, maintained continental peace, founded schools, and provided disaster relief. As faith in the Angel God spread, Spirit Hall grew into a major continental institution. Over time, it dismantled other shrines and temples, leaving the Angel Temple as the sole sanctioned center of worship and forcing followers of other gods into reeducation. 120

Its public presence extends from Heaven Dou Imperial City to remote villages. Local branches conduct annual Spirit Awakening ceremonies for children without family support, issue Soul Master subsidies, and recruit talented commoners for further training. 4 Calais City was left without a branch after its original Spirit Hall was burned, looted, and massacred by bandits. 5

By the early story, Spirit Hall was expanding while concealing much of its strength. Its leadership considered eliminating Ming Zhen after his Holy Light Scepter nearly exposed a plan, while the organization was implicated in the attack on Dai Mubai that briefly united Heaven Dou and Star Luo interests against it. 3

The death of Holy Son Moro during a hunt for the Bloodthirsty Demonic Flame Spider and the theft of the Angel Heart—an Angel Clan divine artifact—created simultaneous crises for both the Papal Palace and the enshrined elders. Spirit Hall mobilized branches across the continent in response. 16 21

During the God War Battlefield incident, the Goddess of Life imposed ten years of Divine Condemnation on Spirit Hall. The punishment halted its cultivation progress and prevented new Angel God inheritances during that period. 75

Heaven Dou Infiltration

With Qian Renxue unable to proceed with her Angel God inheritance during Divine Condemnation, Spirit Hall shifted toward using her identity as Xue Qinghe to absorb the Heaven Dou Empire gradually into a future Spirit Hall Empire. 95 The plan involved assassinations within the imperial family and an attempted seizure of the imperial palace, but it failed to secure the empire and forced Spirit Hall’s agents to retreat. 95 96

Decline in Reputation and Open Conflict

Spirit Hall later absorbed the Mera Principality after the murder of a branch bishop and the killing of its envoys, adding the territory to Spirit City. 145 Its handling of the Elite Competition was subsequently marred by bribery allegations, compromised venues, assassinations aimed at competing teams, and suspected Rakshasa-related schemes. 136 157 159 161

After the competition crisis, Spirit Hall’s reputation deteriorated sharply. Its conflict with the Clear Sky Sect escalated into a major military campaign led by Qian Daoliu, whose force consisted entirely of Soul Kings and above. The Clear Sky Sect repelled the attack and captured a mysterious box from Spirit Hall’s camp. 214 215 217

When Qian Renxue’s corruption threatened her Angel inheritance and a wider continental crisis emerged, Qian Daoliu received an Angel God oracle ordering the continent’s elite forces to unite and guard its core. He, Bibi Dong, Tang Yunhua, and Ming Zhen agreed to set aside previous grievances against the external threat. 244

Internal Factions

Spirit Hall and the Papal Palace historically complemented one another: the former supplied strength, while the latter exercised authority. Earlier Great Priests and popes came from the same lineage, preventing serious division between the two institutions. 203

Under Qian Daoliu and Bibi Dong, that balance deteriorated. Bibi Dong is both the former pope’s student and wife and Qian Daoliu’s daughter-in-law, leaving the two halls bound by an unusually tangled family and political relationship. 203

Soul Master Forces

Spirit Hall fields a Soul Master army rather than a conventional civilian force. Though comparatively small, its members possess substantially greater combat power than ordinary soldiers. 61 Its campaign against the Clear Sky Sect deployed Soul Kings and stronger Soul Masters exclusively. 215
