Background / History

Sukuna is a Cursed Spirit born from negative human emotions. He is known as the King of Curses and bears the name of a two-faced, four-armed demon; he was once a human who defeated all sorcerers of his era through his own power 1 198.

He became sealed inside Uchiha Kagami after the convergence of their respective timelines. Unable to take Kagami's body by force, Sukuna remained trapped behind the Gate of Sealing while Kagami treated him as a source of power rather than a partner 1 2. Kagami gradually extracted and digested Sukuna's Cursed Energy, learned principles behind his slashing techniques, and used increasingly powerful seals—including Dragon Vein energy—to restrain him 9 35 58.

Sukuna temporarily took control of Kagami's body during the Nine-Tails' rampage. He summoned Mahoraga and expanded the Malevolent Shrine, but Kagami restricted his access to the Sharingan and forced him to endure the battle while studying Reverse Cursed Technique 66 67. During the conflict, Sukuna learned to convert Cursed Energy into Chakra, deepening his ability to function in the Shinobi World 68.

After Kagami prepared a separate vessel, Sukuna physically manifested on the Moon. Sukuna is an extreme egoist who sees humans—including women, children, and fellow fighters—as food. He delights in killing, initially seeks freedom primarily to slaughter, and considers compassion or restraint beneath him 2 12 66.

Sukuna acknowledges Kagami's talent, admires strong opponents, and grows increasingly invested in their rivalry even while insisting that he will devour Kagami 28 48 155.
