"Mage? Gale, Blazing Flame, prepare to move."

The moment One-Eye saw Mayuna floating in the sky, he had a bad feeling. Anyone capable of flight was at least a Mage-level powerhouse, something the mission briefing had never mentioned. But he did not panic. With his defense, an ordinary Mage could not kill him. As long as the other side attacked his two companions behind him, they would have a chance to strike back.

"One-Eye, y-your hand..."

Just as Gale and Blazing Flame were about to act, they witnessed something unbelievable. One-Eye's arm, which had completely turned to stone, gradually became transparent, liquefied, and finally dripped to the ground as liquid. The horrifying sight was too much for them to accept. The Mage girl had secretly memorized the owners of those gazes, intending to get even with them later. Yet her excellent memory had made her realize that some of them had not been watching her, but Ruben beside her. If she had discovered it sooner, this would never have happened.

Now that Ruben was dead—probably—she could not help wondering whether she was a bringer of disaster. Everyone who came into contact with her seemed to die an unnatural death. This situation awakened the memories she least wanted to recall.

'Nana, your father and I are going on a long trip. Be good and listen to the priest, okay? We'll bring you presents when we come back.'

In her memories, her mother had reluctantly left her at the church before departing with her father. They never returned. It was the first time Mayuna had tasted the pain of losing her closest family.

Every branch on Dragon's body felt terrible. A forbidden spell against these minor lackeys? If he had heard those words before, he might have laughed so hard he fell off someone's head. Dragon swam to Ruben's side and violently struck him several times, then cast a Wakefulness spell on him before finally rousing him. He then grabbed Ruben by the collar with his transformed hands and shouted urgently.

"What happened?"

"Just get over there!"

Dragon had no patience to explain things slowly to the dazed Ruben. He cast a protective barrier around him, grabbed him, and flew out of the water sphere. Then, with a hard throw, he hurled Ruben toward Mayuna, who was still floating in the sky.

Ruben's body soon collided with Mayuna's. Like swatting a fly, he knocked her from the sky. The two rolled across the ground in a tangled heap several times, worsening Ruben's injuries a little more.

"Mayuna?"

Ruben patted Mayuna, who was lying on his chest. They had remained in that position for quite some time, yet Mayuna still refused to move away.

"Ruben, please... don't leave me without saying a word..."

Mayuna's hands tightly clenched Ruben's clothes. Having regained what she thought she had lost left her at a loss, and she could only clumsily plead with him.

Hearing the sob in Mayuna's voice, Ruben inexplicably heard his own heart pounding. He had always been indifferent toward his relationships with those around him, but it seemed that he too had changed in some invisible way. He softly gave a sound of agreement.

Akedaisi was in a fairly good mood. Not long ago, he had received word from his familiar that the man with no magic power had been captured and was being delivered. As the chief disciple of the vice president of the Black Magic Church, he believed he might obtain some valuable information from that unusual person, making it easier for him to inherit his teacher's position in the future.

For once, he had set aside his status and personally come before the teleportation array to wait for the goods to arrive. The array before him lit up, but only one person emerged from it—a white-haired woman.

"Who are you?"

"I dismantled them all. You have ten seconds to leave your last words."

Mayuna could not be bothered to waste words on a dead man. She raised a finger, and a fraction of a second later, an enormous fireball hung overhead. She had come here to eliminate the root of the problem. No matter what, she could not watch over Ruben twenty-four hours a day. If the mastermind tried to do something to him again, there would be no way to guard against it. When it came to such matters, the Mage girl would never show mercy.

"Y-you can't kill me! My teacher is Xiutan Yin! If you kill me, the Black Magic Church won't let you go!"

Akedaisi felt profound despair from the fireball. This was simply not something a magic shield could block. The gemstone his beloved teacher had bestowed upon him, inscribed with an eighth-tier defensive spell, shattered the instant it sensed that magic power.

"What strange last words."

Mayuna nodded and buried the man whose name she did not even know in a sea of flames. Then she stepped onto the teleportation array and teleported back in reverse.

"Where did you go?"

When Ruben saw Mayuna return, he asked in confusion. After getting off him, the woman had left without saying a word for a while.

"To throw out the trash."
