Definition

A Dao Path is a cultivator's route toward attaining the Dao. It is associated with a cultivator's Dao Body, cultivation methods, personal ideals, and eventual Dao Fruit.

• A Dao Body is described as a “ticket” to a Dao Path. Zheng Fa questions why a Dao Path can accommodate only a limited number of cultivators and whether this established model is correct 211.
• Dao Paths are shaped by precedence: once earlier cultivators have occupied a path, later cultivators may be forced to live beneath their shadow 297.
• A Dao Fruit may be unique to a path. The Grand Liberation Demon Emperor regards Zheng Fa's acquisition of the Demon Emperor Dao Fruit as a threat because only the Demon Emperor had previously walked that path 373.
• Dao Paths can be contested. Shi Nandang explicitly calls the Dao Path “one of contention,” arguing that a disciple who does not contend may have no path to survival 429.

Relationship to Cultivation

Dao Path Disputes and Innovation

Dao Paths are not treated as fixed or universally correct. Disputes over Dao Paths can arise even between senior cultivators of the same sect; Senior Sister Zhang describes the friction between her master and Uncle-Master Pang as a disagreement over Talisman Arts' Dao Path 72.

Zheng Fa repeatedly challenges inherited assumptions. His discovery that Venerable Tianhe had likely opened another Dao Path within Golden Core cultivation reinforces the possibility that a realm can be developed beyond its established limits 308.

He also proposes a path of recognition separate from cultivation talent: intelligent researchers should receive status and resources as a distinct route within the Nine Mountains Sect 261.

Zheng Fa's Dao Path

Zheng Fa's Life-bound Dharma Treasure design is explicitly tied to his ideals. He wishes to spread a new spirit founded on scientific ideals while also using collective knowledge to aid his own understanding 313.

His later path is defined as spreading the Dharma, carrying forward the sages' wisdom, and establishing a New Law rather than pursuing slaughter 696.

Yellow Court Scripture

The Yellow Court Scripture is Zheng Fa's attempt to unite and surpass existing major paths.

• It integrates the Yang Spirit Method, Dharma Body Method, and Celestial River Method 537.
• Its central meaning is change: it embraces diverse methods rather than enforcing a single fixed form of cultivation 672.
• Zheng Fa regards the Heavenly Dipper Earthly Fiends Transformation as a foundation of this scripture because it can simulate the cultivation structures of other sects and Dao Fruits 551.
• Because no one had previously cultivated the Yellow Court Scripture, Zheng Fa must create an unprecedented Ritual to advance through its Dao Fruit stage 579.

Notable Dao Paths

• Senior Sister Zhang's Talisman Dao — Her work laid much of the foundation for the Talisman Dao Foundation Establishment Method; Zheng Fa considers her to have created half a Dao Path herself 200.
• Venerable Tianhe's Golden Core path — Believed to have opened a distinct route within Golden Core cultivation through an Innate Divine Ability and unrivaled understanding of the realm 308.
• Demon Emperor Dao Path — A Dao Fruit path formerly occupied by the Grand Liberation Demon Emperor, later shared or challenged by Zheng Fa 373.
• Sword cultivators' Dao Path — Associated with the Immortal-Slaying Method and Life-bound Dharma Treasures fused with the body 300.
• Thunder Sound Buddha's Path of Dependent Origination — Uses Heavenly Eye Vision, Heavenly Ear, and Divine Dao methods to gather information and deduce possible outcomes 686.
