Ravenclaw Gains Five Points
Sean was quite confident in his memory, and he had also thoroughly read "One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi" and "Magical Drafts and Potions," so he was certain that these books did not mention this Potions.
"I don't know, Professor," he answered honestly.
"Looks like you didn't use the summer to fill in the gaps in your knowledge." Snape narrowed his eyes. "Let's try this again—"
It was a pot of pale blue liquid, with white steam rising and swirling around the area directly above the Cauldron.
Never seen it before... Sean's lips twitched.
"I don't know... Professor."
"This--"
"I don't know, Professor."
Hermione stood to the side with her hand raised high, but Snape completely ignored her.
Harry probably knew this too, but he would never answer proactively— Snape wouldn't call on him either; he was used to deducting points from Harry based on various small details.
"Wallerup, it seems you don't even know the principle of 'the early bird catches the worm'," Snape mocked. "Let me tell you—the first potion is Lightness Potion, which can increase the speed and reaction speed of the user; the second potion is Eagle-Eye Potion, which can greatly improve the user's field of vision; this is Powerful Healing Potion that can alleviate any injury, except for mental trauma."
Knowing Snape's temper, the students took out their notebooks and quickly wrote things down before he could even speak.
"Sit down, Wallerup —two points deducted from Ravenclaw. I told you guys last school year to use your brains during the summer."
Sean sat down helplessly. Snape was definitely using this to settle a personal score!
Once the rustling sounds in the classroom stopped, Snape introduced the other Potions, and finally stood in front of Felix Felicis: "Today we'll brew Hair-Raising Potion."
He glanced at the crowd with a gloomy look and said slowly and reluctantly, "Whoever can perfectly brew the potion will receive a small bottle of Felix Felicis."
The students were astonished. They looked at each other in disbelief and even made a commotion.
"Quiet!" Snape roared. "The headmaster thinks you need motivation, otherwise I would never have given you a prize—do you think you're qualified?"
"You only get one chance. Only the perfect potion will grant you the reward. You'll never see it again!"
After Snape uttered those words, everyone frantically flipped through their textbooks. Snape's standards must have been outrageously high; his "perfection" was no easy feat. But everyone clung to a sliver of hope—what if?
Sean got serious too; he had Snape's notes!
But what if the old bat judges this as cheating?
With this in mind, Sean continued working. Although the Felix Felicis that Lily had promised to give him was already being prepared, no one ever complains about having too much good stuff, and maybe he could even give it away as a gift.
Snape wandered through the underground classrooms, picking on and scolding people from time to time. Harry and Sean were the main targets, including but not limited to the heat of the boiling herbs, the way they held the silver knife, and the fact that their noses were too close to the Cauldron.
"Wring out the water from the fresh Long-Thread Water Grass..." Sean looked at the operating steps in the textbook.
Long-Thread Water Grass is an aquatic plant that grows in caves at the bottom of lakes. This hair-like thing is extremely wet. Hermione was using all her strength, but the Long-Thread Water Grass was still wet.
Sean recalled a note in his notebook: you can clump the water plants together, put them in a mortar and pestle, pound them with Copper Pestle, and then take them out and squeeze them dry.
He picked up the mortar and pestle from the side and did as instructed. To his surprise, he found that after being struck with the Copper Pestle, the wet, Long-Thread Water Grass squeezed out most of the water with just a little force.
Sean tried to remind Hermione, but Snape stared at him sullenly after seeing his actions, the meaning clear: if you dare tell anyone without my permission, I'll deduct points from your score.
Helpless, Sean had no choice but to continue brewing his Hair-Raising Potion, and with the help of his notebook, his progress was exceptionally smooth.
By the time Snape called for a halt, his Hair-Raising Potion had completely turned into a greasy, transparent liquid, just as described in the book.
Snape was checking everyone's Potions when he got to Sean's side. He seemed to be struggling with something, but in the end, he just glanced at the Potions, snorted, and walked away.
He neither found fault nor praised Sean, completely ignoring the fact that Sean's Hair-Raising Potion was perfect.
When class ended, no one had received the bottle of Felix Felicis.
"Sean, I bet Snape himself couldn't brew it any better than you. He just doesn't want to give you the Felix Felicis," Hermione said indignantly.
Although the girl was very surprised by Sean's sudden enlightenment about Potions, she knew that Potions didn't lie and she felt that her friend had suffered a great injustice.
Sean smiled but didn't say anything. His Hair-Raising Potion was basically the same as the one Snape taught him, so it was normal that the old bat wouldn't reward him.
Moreover, he had a hunch about Snape's intentions; perhaps the Felix Felicis wasn't actually meant for people like them...
Daisy felt a little uneasy as she stepped into the Potions Classroom. She had heard about Professor Snape's character over the past few days; apart from Slytherin, he had criticized almost every student in the other houses.
This worried Daisy a bit. She had spent most of her life in bed, and although her mother was an excellent Potion Master, she had never even touched Cauldron.
Moreover, Harry said that he was often criticized by Snape, which made Daisy even more nervous—her mother had said that Harry had an outstanding talent for Potions.
Little White Flower and her newly made friends sat obediently at the edge of the classroom.
"Bang!" Snape's entrance was as imposing as ever, and the first-year students immediately tensed up.
"What a scary teacher... "Daisy muttered to herself.
After Snape finished his usual opening remarks, he Qidian roll call.
"... Daisy Potter".
"Yes, yes, Professor!" Daisy stood up nervously, accidentally bumping her head on the corner of the table, which made her brows furrow in pain.
Snape's voice was as somber as ever. "... Be more careful next time."
"Okay, Professor." Daisy rubbed her arm.
However, Professor Snape doesn't seem as scary as I imagined? Little White Flower muttered to herself.
"...Miss Daisy," Snape used a rather odd form of address, "When should the Weeping Fruit be picked?"
Daisy's eyes lit up. She was very familiar with the Weeping Fruit; Bathilda Bagshot had planted many of them in her garden.
"It must be picked under the moonlight, Professor."
Snape nodded almost imperceptibly. "Correct, Ravenclaw five points."
I've been very busy lately, so as usual, I'll make it up to you tomorrow.
