Slytherin's True Heir
"Nick, you said that ghost is called Gormlaith Gaunt?" Sean asked again, incredulously.
Nearly Headless Nick, was puzzled. He didn't understand why Sean was reacting so strongly.
"Yes, although I've been dead for five hundred years, my memory is still excellent," he adjusted his translucent, ruffled collar, looking somewhat smug. "Although very few people know the name of the Moody Witch, with my connections in the ghost world..."
"Sorry, Nick, while I'm interested in your story, it's a tense time right now," Sean interrupted Nick, who was about to boast. "Tell me about Gormlaith Gaunt."
"Oh, okay," Nick with some regret, but still explained in detail to Sean, "Gormlaith Gaunt, nicknamed the Moody Witch —you can imagine what kind of person she is from her nickname."
"There's an unwritten rule among ghosts: don't ask about each other's past lives. Of course, most ghosts don't care about that, since we're all 'unforgiving' people," Nearly Headless Nick, chuckled self-deprecatingly. "Gormlaith is a grumpy witch. She'll curse anything she doesn't like, and she's also a Pure-blood —because of that, many ghosts have a bad relationship with her, and gradually, no one wants to associate with her anymore."
"She has always lived alone in the Cormgary Valley. I was a nobleman before I died, so I could at least exchange a few words with her. Although she is eccentric and cruel, she does know many secrets of the Wizarding World —which is why I recommended her to you."
Sean asked eagerly, "Nick, do you know the Gaunt Family?"
"Gaunt?" Nick looked puzzled. "I don't recall him. Is Gormlaith's family very famous?"
Information gap... Sean sighed silently. Nick didn't know much about the Gaunt Family, otherwise he would have informed the professors of such important information long ago.
They walked to the corner, where Hermione and Daisy were waiting.
"Nick, please go and tell Professor McGonagall to just repeat what you just told me." After giving this quick instruction, Sean pulled Hermione and Daisy back, leaving Nick standing there looking puzzled.
"Sean, what happened?" Hermione asked curiously.
"I'll explain later, Hermione. Can I borrow that book, ' World Schools of Magic,' again?"
The group hurriedly returned to the Ravenclaw Common Room. Hermione, though somewhat puzzled, went back to her room and retrieved the book.
Sean took the book and quickly began to read it.
"I remember seeing... Ilvermorny ... Founders ... early life." He muttered as he found the information he needed.
Gormlaith Gaunt is a descendant of Salazar Slytherin, one of the Four Founders of Hogwarts. Like her ancestor, she firmly believed in the superiority of Pure-blood, and she even inherited Slytherin's Horned Serpent Wand.
Aside from all that, she was also the aunt of Isolt Thayer, the Founders of Ilvermorny.
However, this aunt was much more ruthless than Harry's Aunt Petunia.
Due to ideological differences, Gormlaith and her younger sister had long been estranged. When Isolt Thayer was five years old, Gormlaith set fire to her sister and brother-in-law's residence, burning the the Sayres to death, and then rescued young Isolt Thayer.
Gormlaith's reason for committing these cruel acts was that her sister was secretly using magic to help the Muggle neighbors. This Pure-blood witch believed that her sister's assistance to the Muggle neighbors could lead to Isolt marrying Muggle, and that taking their daughter away was the only way to "bring the child back to the right path."
Seeing this, Sean frowned deeply. There was no advantage to Pure-blood; instead, the Gaunt Family's characteristic stubbornness, stupidity, and cruelty were on full display. He wondered what Slytherin would think if they knew their 'theory' had been so widely adopted.
He continued reading.
After burning her own sister and brother-in-law to death, Gormlaith took five-year-old Isolt back to the neighboring Cormgary Valley. From then on, Gormlaith raised Isolt in her own way.
For twelve years, Gormlaith had isolated Isolt from the outside world, cutting her off from all contact with it. Whenever Muggle or animals got too close to their hut, the cruel Gormlaith would curse them and force Isolt to watch.
When Isolt turned eleven, Gormlaith refused to send her to Hogwarts, finding it intolerable that the school accepted Muggle-born. In her view, Isolt would learn far more from her.
Faced with such a mad and cruel aunt, Isolt began to try to escape. On her second attempt, she succeeded and stole the Slytherin wand.
Next comes the story of Isolt Thayer, who, after a series of events, founded the Ilvermorny School of Magic. Unfortunately, her mad aunt, Gormlaith Gaunt, found out about it.
Gormlaith pinched her nose and went to Ollivander's Wand Shop to buy a new wand, then smuggled herself to America, where she planned to repeat her old tricks—kill Isolt and her Muggle husband, and then steal her two great-nieces.
The book "World Schools of Magic" does not describe this event in detail. It only mentions at the end that Gormlaith's evil plan failed, and she was pierced through the heart by a poisoned arrow and died.
"He's definitely a villain..." Sean thought to himself as he closed the book.
Historically, the Wizarding World has never provided detailed accounts of history, and most wizards are not particularly studious, as evidenced by the current state of Hogwarts —even Ravenclaw students only explore topics that interest them, and very few read widely.
Not many people have read the book "Hogwarts: Hogwarts, A History".
Sean never expected that Gormlaith Gaunt, the mad witch who had been dead for nearly three hundred years, would remain in the real world as a ghost.
She rarely socialized and accepted Nick's invitation to celebrate his death anniversary. Coincidentally, the Chamber of Secrets was opened that very day.
Gormlaith is a pure Slytherin descendant, so Parseltongue is naturally a given for her.
However, Sean still had some questions. Why would a ghost suddenly come to Hogwarts and open the Chamber of Secrets? Had she done that when she was in school?
She would definitely be someone who enjoys doing this, so why would she do it as a ghost...?
Sean fell into deep thought.
