Who Makes the Best Double Agent?
If Transfiguration and various spells represent people's pursuit of wondrous abilities, then flight must be humanity's most primal dream.
Unlike airplanes and hot air balloons in the Muggle world, or Flying Broomstick and flying Flying Carpet in the Wizarding World, Voldemort's self-created Flying Charm truly granted a person the ability to fly.
How come I didn't notice such a practical and cool spell before... Sean scratched his head, somewhat puzzled. He opened the detailed interface and discovered the difference in this spell.
Flying Charm (Transfiguration + Dark Arts) Lv0: Proficiency 1/10000
Sean gaped in astonishment. This was the first time he had ever seen a spell that combined two types of magic, and judging from the proficiency requirements, the spell was quite difficult.
The reason he hadn't realized it was because he hadn't mastered the Flying Charm.
The first page of one of the most popular books among Hogwarts students, Quidditch Through the Ages *, contains this passage:
To date, wizards have not invented any spells that allow them to fly in human form without any tools. A small number of Animagus Transformation into winged animals, can enjoy flight, but they are few and far between. Wizards who find themselves Transfiguration into bats can soar freely, but with bat heads, they inevitably forget where they want to go while flying. Floating in the air is commonplace, but our ancestors were not content with merely hovering five feet above the ground; they wanted to fly higher. They longed to fly freely like birds, but without the inconvenience of having feathers.
As Animagus, Fire Dragon not recorded in history, Sean did not really enjoy the pleasure of flying— the Fire Dragon's fleshy wings could not support such a huge body and soar through the air when flapping; it mainly relied on the Fire Dragon's own magic.
This shows just how brilliant Mr. Voldemort was in inventing the Flying Charm.
He had clearly hidden this Flying Charm very well. In Sean's memory, it seemed that only Voldemort and Snape had mastered this spell in the original Timeline —the latter was most likely taught by the former.
Even powerful figures like Dumbledore and Grindelwald cannot fly freely using just a spell.
Fortunately, my Transfiguration Talent and Dark Arts Talent are quite good—I choose you, Flying Charm!
Sean raised his eyebrows in satisfaction.
The fragments of Voldemort's Soul Fragment did not bring him a high level of proficiency in the Flying Charm, but at least they brought him the details of casting the spell.
Sean, who desperately needed a way to move quickly, immediately threw himself into learning it, not only for flying, but also because this Voldemort -specific spell would help him regain his prestige among the Death Eaters in the future.
After studying it carefully for a while, Sean slowly raised his head and opened his slightly closed eyes.
Regardless of whether this guy is mentally unstable or not, there's really nothing to say about his talent for Spell Talent... Sean couldn't help but sigh.
The Flying Charm originated from a top-tier form of Dark Arts. Voldemort incorporated the Levitation Charm, Transfiguration, Darting Charm, Wind-Breaking Charm, Variant Shield Charm, and his own creations, perfectly blending these spells together.
When a wizard masters this spell, he can not only gain extremely fast flight speed and accelerate using wind power, but also gain a certain defensive ability when in flight mode.
The only drawback is that the Flying Charm still falls under the category of Dark Arts. However, because it incorporates Transfiguration, it doesn't require much negative emotion—you need to maintain a special kind of "arrogance" when casting the Flying Charm.
According to Sean, this "arrogance" is not quite the same as its literal meaning; the curse caster is defying the gravity of this land...
"My current goal is to be able to successfully cast the Flying Charm within a week," Sean set a plan for himself.
With Sean's talent, casting this level of Dark Arts or Transfiguration wouldn't require such a long practice time. However, the Flying Charm is special, especially the part that incorporates Transfiguration, which requires careful handling— Sean doesn't want to become a genie with smoke on his lower body before he can even take flight.
Even with this in mind, the difficulty of practicing the Flying Charm still exceeded Sean's expectations.
Even the initial manipulation of magic was quite complicated, and Sean almost had an accident during the initial Transfiguration. If it weren't for his abnormal Transfiguration Talent giving him extraordinary intuition, Sean probably wouldn't be able to walk anymore.
This is also what Professor McGonagall has always emphasized: Always maintain awe for Transfiguration.
After all, a successful Transfiguration requires magic to maintain, and once the magic is gone, the original form is restored; however, a failed Transfiguration is permanent. The gradually weakening magic will no longer flow within the body of the loser, and the failed Transfiguration magic becomes a one-time, terrifying 'consumable'. It will cause permanent distortion to the loser, or even turn them into a monster—there is no record of an individual who has been completely transformed into a monster ever recovering their human form.
However, Sean managed to overcome the initial difficulties without any major incidents. With enough caution, outstanding talent, and a little bit of luck, Sean finally achieved his goal on the seventh day of practicing the Flying Charm.
"An incredible feeling..." Outside the Newmontgard Castle at midnight, Sean, whose lower body was shrouded in smoke and whose upper body was slightly blurred, was hovering outside a tower.
"This spell works much better than the Flying Broomstick ..." Sean was quite excited as he soared freely under the moonlight, the pitch-black night providing him with perfect cover—although in Newmontgard, no professor would ever punish a second-year student Sean Wallerup for violating curfew.
Sean flew in the air for a while, then quickly fell back down. He transformed into a thick cloud of gray-black smoke and landed on the terrace. Then the smoke dissipated, and Sean, now back in his original form, stood firmly on the stone floor.
"The magic flow is still smooth, with no aftereffects of a failed Transfiguration, and the negative emotions brought on by Dark Arts can be completely suppressed... The magic consumption is considerable; an ordinary second-year student probably wouldn't last more than ten minutes before having to revert back to normal. My own magic can last for about thirty to forty minutes... The speed is extremely fast, much faster than when I transformed into Fire Dragon, and also considerably faster than the fastest Flying Broomstick on the market right now— the Nimbus 2001... The Wind-Breaking Charm it incorporates is quite effective; I estimate my hairstyle won't even be messed up when I land..."
After summarizing the effects and costs of the Flying Charm, Sean was quite satisfied. Aside from one gathering at the Golden Dawn, he had spent all his free time this week practicing the Flying Charm, and so far it seemed worthwhile.
"However, there are still many areas where we can improve our skills..." Sean habitually rested his chin on his hand and began to think.
"The speed at which I can transform into smoke and return to my original form can be further improved; some of the magic power used for Transfiguration can be saved; transforming my entire body into black mist requires a higher level of proficiency, and also more caution; I need to improve my sense of direction when flying, as I almost crashed into the tower several times just now..."
After reflecting on the aspects that needed improvement and strengthening, Sean stretched contentedly.
It's worth it, it's worth it...
However, Sean's good mood didn't last 24 hours.
The next day after class, Sean led Hermione and Daisy toward the club's assembly room, only to be met with an uninvited guest as soon as they opened the door.
And it was someone Sean hadn't even considered.
Fabian Aiken.
Sean group arrived a while early, while the other members of the Golden Dawn had not yet arrived. Inside the classroom, Fabian Aiken, with one arm in a sling, sat in a wheelchair, surrounded by several followers.
Aiken looked like he was covered in injuries, but he had obviously focused on healing his head first. The scars on his face had disappeared, and his hairstyle was impeccable. He was now staring at Sean, who had just pushed the door open, with a cold gaze.
"Wallerup ..." he began slowly, his voice filled with resentment and coldness.
"Has no one taught you the most basic manners, Mr. Aiken?" Sean glanced at the man's henchmen, then blocked Hermione and Daisy at the door.
Aiken curled the corners of his mouth, seemingly wanting to reveal a smile, but Sean, who was ruthless in both hands and words, wouldn't give him a chance to speak.
"Wait a minute, Mr. Aiken ..." Sean flashed a perfect, impeccable gentlemanly smile. "Are you trying to mimic my smile? Then casually drop a couple of harsh words? And tell me your father is the head of a famous pure-blooded France Pure-blood families? Wait, judging by your expression, let me think about it—"
"Wallerup— " Aiken's tone grew increasingly cold.
Sean ignored him and continued, "So! So! After such a shameful thing happened, you still have the nerve to come back to Newmontgard? Looks like you've done a lot of mental preparation during this time? Like, that future leaders should let go of failure, or that true nobles should get up quickly after falling down? Putting everything else aside, I'm amazed by the thickness of your skin, Mr. Aiken."
"You are indeed sharp-tongued, but you made a mistake. I have already been through all that. Do you think I would get angry because of your rude and weak words?" To Sean's surprise, Aiken actually just smiled slightly, without the impetuousness that was easily triggered by anger.
His mindset has changed quite well; it has actually helped him transform... Sean secretly curled his lip, but he didn't stop his sarcasm.
Sometimes, your explanation is just a cover-up.
Aiken ignored his taunts and slowly pushed his wheelchair forward, without even glancing at the wand in Sean's hand.
He really wanted to throw a curse at her... Sean narrowed his eyes, but in the end, he gave up the impulse.
There were several people behind the other person, and Aiken had a lot of new accessories on him—presumably Magical Item.
Aiken leaned close to Sean and whispered with a chuckle in his ear, "Smart, you didn't lay a hand on me, Wallerup, and you know I won't lay a hand on you..."
"I have a rather unstable temper, so I suggest you be careful." Sean's smile remained Transfiguration.
"Just a second-year student, and this mentality alone is something to be taken seriously..." Aiken licked his lips. "Ha, you're probably wondering what I'm here for, right? Threats and threats are useless against people like us—"
"Don't use the word 'we,' Aiken. Let the trash be beautiful on its own."
"You're still mocking me, which means—you're worried, you're afraid..." Aiken narrowed his eyes excitedly and leaned closer. "Wallerup, when you started your lousy club, I made it clear that no one else should participate. Did you think I was here for that?"
Sean narrowed his eyes slightly; he had guessed the other party's intentions...
Aiken's eyes were like a slippery, scaleless poison trying to burrow into his body; the coldness within was hidden deep within, impossible to discern, and only those who faced them directly could feel the resentment and ruthlessness within.
"I know, Wallerup ..." Aiken sighed with satisfaction. "Ha—ha—I knew it was you, Wallerup. I know for sure that you were the one who kidnapped me that day..."
He looked at Sean's expressionless face and chuckled nervously, "Hehe, want to deny it?"
Sean raised an eyebrow slightly, his gaze towards the other person filled with pity and contempt.
It was impossible for his own actions to be exposed so quickly. The other party would not receive any information in the castle of Newmontgard, and he had previously left behind the Dark Mark of the Death Eaters to Confundus Charm.
Today, Fabian Aiken's unwavering certainty that he is the murderer, and his eagerness to come to the door and utter threats, proves one thing.
There are traitors among the Death Eaters!
But there's nothing to be shocked about; this lousy organization has hardly any loyal members to begin with, and it's full of traitors...
Upon closer examination, it becomes clear that the traitor's defection was not directed at Grindelwald or Dumbledore, but rather at forces from other countries, such as the France Wizarding Rights Protection Association.
Aiken's attitude proved another point: the fact that Sean Wallerup was Voldemort had not been revealed. The traitor must have only given a message—that the person who did Aiken's job was Sean.
The Aiken family was used as a pawn, to test the mettle of Voldemort or Sean...
The whole thing suddenly got interesting...
Aiken didn't notice the slight change in Sean's expression; instead, he was quite satisfied with the expressionless demeanor of the person in front of him.
"Didn't expect that, did you, Wallerup? Did you think you'd gotten away with it perfectly? Ha, I've caught you red-handed."
Sean glanced at the other person speechlessly; this villain's self-indulgent pretentiousness was just too over the top.
"Hey... tell me," Sean twirled his wand gracefully as he looked down at the other man, "You can't just lose your mind because of a major setback. Before you Aiken Family wrongly accuse innocent people, can't you manage the mentally ill in your family first?"
The two knew it was one thing, but admitting it out loud was another. Sean wouldn't leave such a handle for others to use against him.
Faced with Sean's vehement denial, Aiken's face flushed with a sickly redness. He laughed hoarsely, his voice low and filled with heavy rage. "Wallerup, don't think you can do whatever you want just because you have Grindelwald behind you—my wounds, my father's hand, I'll get them all back, ha—just you wait, just you wait..."
