Background / History

Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, but his Martial Soul mutation left him with only 0.5 Soul Power. Though he spent time in Spirit Hall and later published the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul, much of its material had been copied from Spirit Hall knowledge. His stalled cultivation and clan background shaped his proud, defensive temperament. 51 104 148

His relationships with Bibi Dong and Liu Erlong both ended painfully. Bibi Dong's relationship with him was severed by Qian Xunji, while Yu Luomian exposed that Liu Erlong was Yu Xiaogang's cousin on their wedding night. These losses left Yu Xiaogang deeply sensitive to humiliation and rejection. 55 112

After living in Nuoding City for more than a decade, Yu Xiaogang met Tang San, discovered that the boy possessed Twin Martial Souls, and accepted him as a disciple. He treated Tang San as his path to proving himself, hoping his student's future achievements would restore Yu Xiaogang's reputation. 52 116

At Shrek Academy, Yu Xiaogang continued training Tang San and the other students even after repeated injuries and humiliations. His conflict with Ye Ping'an escalated after Ye Tianxing repeatedly manipulated him while disguised as the Shrek student. 45 49 51 63

Before the All-Continent Advanced Spirit Master Elite Tournament, Yu Xiaogang received cultivation manuals planted by Ye Tianxing through the disguised Xue Qinghe. Believing a false Twin Martial Souls method, Yu Xiaogang directed Tang San to add Spirit Rings to the Clear Sky Hammer prematurely. Tang San became a Soul King, but the process sacrificed his Clear Sky Hammer Martial Soul. 135 136 141

Desperate for revenge against Ye Ping'an, Yu Xiaogang attempted to recruit the Strength Clan against the Ye Clan, sought an assassination arrangement with Shi Nian, and tried to enlist Tang Hao's help. Letters discovered in his possession linked Yu Xiaogang to a supposed arrangement with Spirit Hall that used Clear Sky Sect elders as bait against Ye Ping'an. Yu Xiaogang admitted to writing one letter but denied writing the others; the Clear Sky Sect nevertheless held him responsible after Seventh Elder died in the resulting ambush. He was publicly judged, expelled from Heaven Dou, and left vulnerable to execution by either empire. 154 155 157

Spirit Hall intercepted him before his execution. Yu Xiaogang crawled to Spirit City and proposed that Bibi Dong cooperate with him to destroy Ye Ping'an and the Ye Clan. When he suggested abducting Ye Tianxing's infant son, Bibi Dong turned on him; Ye Ping'an revealed himself, and Yu Xiaogang was imprisoned and tortured. 160 161 162

While imprisoned, he was forced to witness Ye Ping'an's rise and the destruction of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. After two years away, he was taken to the clan's gates only to be rejected by its disciples before Spirit Hall devastated the clan. 206 237 239

Yu Xiaogang is described as a close-cropped-haired man whose stern, expressionless manner reinforces his self-styled image as “Master.” Repeated injuries, the loss of his life essence, and prolonged imprisonment leave him increasingly gaunt, crippled, and disheveled. 51 60 160

Yu Xiaogang's defining trait is pride rooted in his Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan background. He expects others to address him as “Master,” looks down on weaker or less prestigious Spirit Masters, and reacts badly when his expertise is questioned. 51 67

He is intensely preoccupied with recognition. Tang San's Twin Martial Souls represented not only a promising disciple but Yu Xiaogang's chance to erase years of ridicule and establish himself as a renowned theorist and teacher. 51 52 116

Repeated failures transform that ambition into resentment. He struggles to accept responsibility for Tang San's ruined second Martial Soul, blames Ye Ping'an for nearly every setback, and becomes willing to manipulate allies, pursue assassination, and propose using Ye Tianxing's son as leverage. 141 148 161

Even in captivity, Yu Xiaogang remains stubborn and defiant, but witnessing Ye Ping'an's accomplishments and his own infamy steadily breaks him psychologically. 162 205 206

Tang San's Ruined Cultivation

Convinced by Ye Tianxing's forged Twin Martial Souls manual, Yu Xiaogang leads Tang San into attaching Spirit Rings to the Clear Sky Hammer. After Tang San rejects him and the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan expels him, Yu Xiaogang seeks vengeance through Titan, Shi Nian, Tang Hao, and eventually Bibi Dong.
