Background / History
Chu Guang was a young man from Earth who awoke in a post-apocalyptic wasteland with a different face and no memory of how he arrived. He discovered Vault 404 and became its administrator, gaining the ability to guide players from Earth into the wasteland through the vault’s systems. He selected four online gaming friends as the first players and built an official website to make the supposed game credible. 2 3
Initially operating alone, he used player labor, quests, rewards, and carefully managed game systems to establish an outpost around Vault 404. He screened players for commitment, built task and appointment systems, and increasingly relied on their initiative rather than directing every task himself. 11 43 49
As the settlement expanded, Chu Guang recruited and trained wasteland survivors for administrative, industrial, military, and commercial roles. He appointed Lukka to warehouse work, assessed rescued captives according to their skills, formed and trained a Guard Squad, and deliberately cultivated capable subordinates rather than relying on bloodline or background. 76 105 135 342
He later led the New Alliance through territorial expansion, military campaigns, diplomacy, and reconstruction. Though widely revered, he consistently resisted being treated as a savior or divine ruler, instead seeking institutions and citizens capable of continuing without him. 512 941 995 1126
Appearance
Chu Guang is a man who commonly presents himself in distinctive blue power armor as the Manager. He also uses holographic imaging to travel without being recognized. 345 372 942
- Awoke in the wasteland with a face different from his original one. 2
- Often wears a deer-pelt coat over an exoskeleton, even when its power is off, using the weight as training. 90
- Frequently equips power armor, a carbon-nanotube bulletproof vest, and a Nitrogen Power Hammer for dangerous operations. 209
- His iconic blue power armor became strongly associated with his status as the Alliance’s Manager. 372
Personality
Chu Guang is strategic, pragmatic, and highly attentive to incentives. He frames the players’ work as a game while designing systems that encourage cooperation, long-term commitment, and a mutually beneficial relationship between players and wasteland natives. 49 539
He is demanding toward subordinates but values genuine loyalty, competence, and initiative over pedigree. He allows captives to leave if they wish, gives survivors roles suited to their experience, and promotes people such as Lukka from humble origins when they prove capable. 105 342 352
Despite his calculating public role, he repeatedly shows compassion and responsibility. He spent a precious Nano Healing Needle to save Xia Yan’s leg, treats rescued captives as individuals rather than assets, and chose mercy after Falcon City’s surrender by promising to disarm and reform its army instead of punishing its royal family. 40 105 512
He is wary of personal cults and centralized dependence on himself. Even while accepting the influence his prestige gives him, he wants the Alliance to survive his absence rather than fracture into factions acting in his name. 776 941 1123 1126
