Background / History

Yu Xiaogang was born as the direct descendant son of Yu Yuanzhen, the leader of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Family. Both parents possessed the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Martial Soul, and his elder brother awakened the same martial soul with Level Seven innate soul power. Before his awakening, Yu Xiaogang was regarded as a gifted heir due to his published theory, My Titled Douluo Father, which won Heaven Dou City's first and only Soul Master Theory Competition 1.

His upbringing as a favored child fostered arrogance and contempt toward those he considered beneath him, including Lin Hanye, then the son of a house servant 1. That standing collapsed during his martial soul awakening: instead of a dragon, he awakened the bizarre piglet-like Luo Sanpao and possessed only half a level of innate soul power. Clan members openly ridiculed him, and he fled the ceremony in humiliation 2.

After Lin Hanye appeared to mock him, Yu Xiaogang asked Yu Yuanzhen to kill him. Yu Yuanzhen refused, but agreed to expel Lin Hanye from the sect 3. Yu Xiaogang subsequently consumed substantial clan resources while pursuing cultivation, yet his first soul ring yielded only a flatulence-based skill 24.

At fourteen, he reached Level 20 and selected a Three-Eyed Demonic Fox for his second ring, hoping to obtain a mental attack. The resulting skill again centered on flatulence, leaving him devastated and increasingly doubtful of both his martial soul and theories 29 30. By seventeen, he had stalled at Level 29; when Yu Yuanzhen reduced his medicinal-bath allocation under pressure from the elders, Yu Xiaogang felt abandoned and left the sect 50.

He traveled to Spirit City and joined Martial Soul Hall in the hope of breaking his Level 30 restriction. To access higher floors of its Library Pavilion, he traded Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect secrets, including dragon-related knowledge, Dragon Transformation information, and medicinal-bath formulas 53 57. Once this betrayal became public, Yu Yuanzhen expelled him from the sect 55.

Martial Soul Hall later imprisoned him for stealing its secrets. He spent eight years in the Tube Building, subjected to repeated torture and treatment that prevented him from dying; upon his release, he had been castrated and was blacklisted from Martial Soul Hall assistance 158 189. Afterward, he met Flender, convinced him that Lin Hanye had plagiarized his theories, and traveled with him 189.

Following the destruction of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect, Yu Xiaogang adopted the identity “Master” and vowed revenge against Lin Hanye and the Soul Master Guild 191. He later found temporary refuge in the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, but left after becoming dissatisfied with his treatment there 209 210. At Nuoding Academy, he took Tang Weiwei and Tang San as disciples, seeking to establish his worth through their talent 230 231. His later betrayal of Shrek Academy and assistance to Tang Hao led to his arrest by the Soul Master Guild 239.

Appearance

As a child, Yu Xiaogang had short black hair parted in a three-seven style, an ordinary face, a large mouth, and thick lips. He later wore grey robes; after his imprisonment, he was described as pale, unshaven, dirty, and physically broken by years of torture 1 23 158.

Personality

Yu Xiaogang began as proud, self-important, and dismissive of peers he viewed as inferior. His fallen status after awakening Luo Sanpao turned this pride into resentment toward his clan, Lin Hanye, and those who ridiculed his limitations 1 2 24.

He is highly ambitious and refuses to accept his innate limitations, repeatedly treating sect resources and privileged access as his entitlement. His desperation to break through drove him to betray clan secrets to Martial Soul Hall, then resent the Hall after believing it had exploited him 24 55 57.

Despite prolonged imprisonment and humiliation, he remains determined to validate his martial soul theories and pursue revenge. This persistence is paired with self-delusion: he claims Lin Hanye's theories were stolen from him and blames others for his failures 158 189 209.
