Chen Feng and Tang San had not waited long before they heard a string of footsteps drawing nearer.
Hearing the sound, Tang San summoned his Blue Silver Grass.
The Blue Silver Grass had changed in appearance. Its stalks had grown much thicker, and its once slender leaves had become broad and sturdy. There were also several more leaves than before, spreading outward around the Blue Silver Grass like an umbrella.
Tang San controlled the Blue Silver Grass as it probed toward the sound, while releasing some of the Sunlight he had stored during the day.
The campsite immediately brightened considerably, and Xiao Wu's figure emerged from the darkness.
The instant he saw her, Chen Feng was surprised to discover that Xiao Wu, like Tang San and Zhu Zhuqing before her, had triggered a resonance from the Tai Chi Bagua Sword.
The resonance corresponded to the Tai Chi Yin position, which Chen Feng had never been able to make sense of.
When Chen Feng had first awakened his martial soul, he had sensed certain things from the Tai Chi Bagua Sword, including the information: "The Yang Sword governs life, the Yin Sword governs death."
In other words, the Tai Chi Bagua Sword had two special forms, Yang and Yin, each corresponding to abilities related to life and death.
Yet no matter how Chen Feng studied it, he had never figured out how to make those two special forms appear.
But now, Xiao Wu had stirred the Yin position on the Tai Chi Bagua Sword. This suggested that the key to unlocking its Yin form was very likely connected to Xiao Wu.
Though he had found the key point, Chen Feng still did not know the exact method for unlocking the special form.
He guessed that, like restoring the Bagua, it might require high-quality blood of the corresponding type to nourish it.
As for whether that guess was correct, they would have to wait until Xiao Wu's martial soul had fully evolved into the Tai Yin Jade Rabbit to find out.
The glow of the Blue Silver Grass allowed Chen Feng and Tang San to see Xiao Wu, and Xiao Wu to see them as well.
She walked over and asked doubtfully, "Xiao San, why are you outside?"
"I cultivated for a while just now. When you hadn't come back after so long, I came out to check on you," Tang San said.
"So that's what happened. Don't worry, Xiao San, I'm fine." Xiao Wu smiled.
"Come to think of it, you only went to use the bathroom. Why did you take so long?" Chen Feng asked, though he already knew the answer.
"Oh, right, I was just about to tell you two about that! Let me tell you, my luck was especially good tonight!" Joy appeared on Xiao Wu's face as she said,
"I was planning to go farther away to find a spot, but I happened to see a Moonlight Stone. So I waited by it, thinking I might be able to find a Moon-Drawing Fox. I never expected that I actually found one! And it was even an injured Moon-Drawing Fox!"
"So you took the opportunity to deal with that Moon-Drawing Fox?" Chen Feng dutifully played along.
"Mm. That Moon-Drawing Fox had injured its hind leg and couldn't run very fast. I chased it for ages before I finally caught up and killed it." Xiao Wu nodded.
"Your luck is simply incredible," Tang San said with a sigh.
Going out to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, only to run into a Moonlight Stone, then happening to encounter a Moon-Drawing Fox coming to absorb moonlight—and an injured one at that.
That was just absurdly good fortune.
"Right? I think so too. Though now that I think about it, I seem to have had pretty good luck ever since I was little." Xiao Wu tilted her little head.
She was laying the groundwork for the future. With the excuse that she had naturally good luck, it would be easier to explain things like this later on.
"Then does that mean our soul hunt this time can be considered a complete success?" Chen Feng asked.
"Mm, all three of us obtained the spirit rings we wanted, and we did it all within one day. This really does count as a complete success. Say, should we go tell Grandmaster and Brother Su now?" Tang San asked.
"Forget it. It's too late already. We can tell them tomorrow morning." Chen Feng yawned. "Speaking of which, it's about time. Xiao Wu, it's your turn to keep watch."
"No problem. I'll definitely keep a good watch." Xiao Wu promised cheerfully.
"Alright, then show us your first soul skill tomorrow morning." Chen Feng turned and walked into the tent.
"Then I'm going to sleep too, Xiao Wu," Tang San said.
"Go on, Xiao San. If you don't sleep soon, it'll be dawn." Xiao Wu waved her hand.
Tang San entered the tent and found Chen Feng already curled up beneath the blankets with his eyes closed.
He walked over and gently nudged Chen Feng. Chen Feng opened his eyes and asked in confusion,
"What is it, Xiao San?"
"Don't you think what happened tonight was a little too much of a coincidence?" Tang San asked in a low voice, frowning.
"You mean Xiao Wu?" Chen Feng lowered his voice as well.
"Mm. Although she said it was a coincidence, I keep feeling that she deliberately went out to find a Moon-Drawing Fox. But what I don't understand is why she had to act alone in the middle of the night. This isn't a safe place. What if she ran into a Soul Beast?" Tang San said thoughtfully.
"Maybe she couldn't wait any longer? Look, we both obtained our First Spirit Rings today, while Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing figured out their own paths. Xiao Wu was the only one who gained nothing, so she probably didn't feel very good about it.
"Do you remember how Xiao Wu used to make a fuss about getting her First Spirit Ring so she could become a soul master and receive her subsidy? Maybe she had no luck during the day, then got more and more upset as she lay in bed that night. And perhaps she felt bad about troubling us to go out with her in the middle of the night, so she simply went to look for a Moon-Drawing Fox on her own." Chen Feng did his best to help Xiao Wu make her excuse sound plausible.
Tang San pondered for a moment, then nodded. "That... does seem to make sense."
"Right? And even if she went out for some other reason, so what? The three of us are friends. Seeking harmony while respecting differences is the proper way to make friends.
"Even if she really has some secrets, there's no need for us to get to the bottom of them. Who doesn't have secrets of their own? As long as she has no intention of harming us and does nothing that harms us, we can still be close companions." Chen Feng said softly.
Tang San was persuaded. Just as Chen Feng had said, who did not have their own secrets? As long as they did not harm him, his family, or his friends, everyone could still get along well.
Tang San knew very well that, with the intelligence Chen Feng had displayed, Chen Feng had probably noticed long ago that he was hiding certain secrets during the years they had grown up together.
After all, Chen Feng trained with him every morning. Tang San had not particularly avoided Chen Feng while cultivating the Purple Demon Eye and Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, either.
Yet Chen Feng had never pressed him for answers. That was probably what he meant by seeking harmony while respecting differences.
Outside the tent, Xiao Wu's ears twitched, and a faint smile appeared on her face.
