History

Nine-Tails Night and reconstruction

Following the Nine-Tails' rampage, Konoha lost the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, while Kushina Uzumaki survived and Naruto became the new Nine-Tails jinchūriki. Sarutobi Hiruzen resumed the Hokage position to oversee reconstruction and stabilize the village. 1 3

Konoha rebuilt its damaged districts while facing pressure from the Four Great Shinobi Villages, whose jinchūriki had been attacked by a masked space-time ninja. The village refused to concede responsibility and mobilized forces to project strength. 4

The Uchiha Clan became both an important military asset and a political flashpoint. Suspicion that the Nine-Tails had been controlled through the Sharingan damaged the clan's reputation, while the Hokage faction increasingly sought to limit its influence. 4 8 11

Internal conflict and Kushina's rise

Kushina's association with the Uchiha Clan became increasingly visible after Naruto began receiving education in the Uchiha Clan Residence. The Uchiha viewed Naruto as vital to Kushina's security and political position, while Kushina became a prominent symbol of Konoha's strength. 12 16

During the conflicts with Kumogakure and Iwagakure, Konoha deployed large forces across the Land of Hot Water and Land of the Moon. Long supply lines and Kumogakure's repeated withdrawals strained Konoha's command and logistics. 30

Uchiha Fugaku formally nominated Kushina as a Fifth Hokage candidate during negotiations with Kumogakure. Her proposal to open the Konoha Military Police Force to recruits from other clans expanded her support among smaller and declining clans. 36 38

Fifth Hokage administration

Sarutobi Hiruzen stepped down after Kushina demonstrated that she could rapidly summon a shinobi army. Kushina was inaugurated as Konoha's Fifth Hokage and declared that she would restore the village's strength. 100 101

Her early administration maintained the Advisory Council but demoted Danzō Shimura to prison warden. It elevated Uchiha figures, established the Hokage's Shadow Guard, and used affiliated Bloodline Families to prevent any single clan from dominating the village. 101

Kushina's capture by Akatsuki created a leadership crisis. Sarutobi Hiruzen served as Acting Hokage, followed by Jiraiya, while Konoha attempted to preserve its alliances and prevent outside villages from exploiting her absence. 140 179 212

After returning, Kushina resumed office, identified Obito Uchiha as an Akatsuki member involved in Nine-Tails Night, and moved to recover Konoha's lost missions and international interests. 212 215

Centralization of the Land of Fire

After the Akatsuki conflict, Kushina announced her intention to overthrow the Land of Fire Daimyo and centralize authority under Konoha. 276

Naruto's Shadow Clone seized the Land of Fire Capital under Roran's name, while the Daimyo's family was removed and Konoha assumed control of the country. 279

The resulting Land of Fire system separated political and military functions. Nobles retained their status and could hire ninja through regulated payments, while Konoha and the Military Academy formed the military structure. 319

Later development

Following Iwagakure's retreat, nearby territories—including the Land of Grass, Land of Tea, Land of Rice Fields, Land of Waves, and parts of the River Country—aligned with the Land of Fire. 319
