Background / History
Jude is a scientist from another world who merges with the body of Herbert, a young man living in Gotham City. He inherits Herbert's circumstances and memories, including a $3,000 debt to the Foot Clan and Herbert's determination to help his imprisoned friend Ivy. Faced with Gotham's criminals and superpowered threats, Jude immediately relies on scientific improvisation to arm himself. 2
He investigates Ivy's imprisonment, refusing Penguin's offered assistance because he dislikes owing favors. Jude suspects that Arkham Asylum's rumored human experimentation may be connected to her confinement. 11
Jude ultimately seeks two things: Operation Phoenix, a resurrection system intended to let him survive destruction across worlds, dimensions, and time; and access to the “true reality” beyond the fictional comic-book world. He considers Deadpool and fifth-dimensional beings possible avenues for researching transcendence. 57
Personality
Jude is calculating, irreverent, and intensely self-directed. He dislikes dependence, rejects favors that would leave him indebted, and pursues research even when Gotham's crises make a quiet life impossible. 11 57
His concern is highly selective. He protects people such as Ivy and Little Spider, but he is willing to blackmail, manipulate, imprison, and kill when they conflict with his goals. He deliberately withholds the gene-fusion solution for Aunt May's illness to punish Little Spider and exploit Mephisto's appearance. 128 311
Jude is also arrogant and provocative in combat, frequently taunting opponents. His drinking worsens this recklessness: while drunk, he kills Thor, defeats other Asgardian powers, and inadvertently destroys Asgard with a thrown “toaster.” 255 420 421 422
Abilities & Skills
Scientific Genius
Jude rapidly engineers advanced devices from limited materials and researches technologies ranging from cloning to Infinity Stone-derived equipment.
- Built improvised weapons from a dismantled car. 2
- Created listening devices and used recorded evidence to blackmail Blackgate's deputy warden. 4
- Hacked Tony Stark's account and anonymously donated $10 billion. 73
- Created 111 clones, including symbiote-fused, spider-gene, and Ivy-gene variants, then implanted them with copied memories. 99
- Studied Infinity Stone structures and created devices using their properties. 207 238
Combat Training
Jude possesses inherited combat memories and improves them through practical sparring with the Bat Family.
- Initially lacks the physical conditioning to fully apply his combat knowledge. 63
- Becomes increasingly proficient in hand-to-hand combat through training. 63
- Combines close-quarters fighting with armor propulsion, eye beams, portals, and energy attacks. 183 249
Armored Combat
Jude's primary combat platform is his evolving Cowboy armor series.
- Uses Pym-particle-scale construction and picometer-level material refinement. 177 193
- Produces purple-flame propulsion for flight, bursts of speed, and physical striking power. 183 249
- Resists the Black Phoenix Force because its decomposition does not reach picometer precision. 193
- Can be implanted as a chip and summoned over his body. 172 312
- The armor becomes unavailable in Mephisto's Hell after dimensional rules interfere with its physical operating principles. 312
- Cowboy 3 manifests as a thin film from Jude's pores and grants overwhelming power against divine opponents. 417 421
Portals and Spatial Technology
Jude uses portal technology modeled after “Grandpa Rick's” core invention to travel between worlds and dimensions.
- Treats the Portal Gun as essential for acquiring rare materials beyond Earth. 57
- Creates a Portal Gun from the destroyed Space Stone. 207
- Escapes Annihilus's Cosmic Control Rod confinement by exploiting its brief activation delay. 283
- Uses portals to travel between Hell, Earth, and other dimensions. 330 407
Demonic Energy Absorption
While trapped in Mephisto's Hell without his armor, Jude creates machinery that converts demonic energy into his own power.
- Uses Geralt and an energy-conversion device to dissect demons and absorb their energy. 318
- Hypnotizes guards, seizes Orhardo's power infrastructure, and drains seventy thousand demons. 321
- His natural constitution can only safely contain the energy of roughly ten demons; the conversion system circumvents this limitation. 323
Overlimit Mode
Overlimit Mode draws on the Micro-Universe Battery to dramatically increase Cowboy 2's output.
- Generates massive purple flames. 255 266
- Lets Jude contend physically with Mongul and overwhelm Blue Marvel. 255
- Enables him to severely injure and then kill Tyrant despite Tyrant's cosmic-energy defenses. 266
