Background

In this world, Thanos is not a Titan. He is a New God, one of three brothers alongside Darkseid and Mongul, and rules from Attilan in the Berylifen Galaxy. His faction is powerful enough that civilizations fear his name and readily assist his fleet’s movements across interstellar territory. 161 270

Thanos holds a deep resentment toward Darkseid, who has long oppressed him. Although Thanos and Mongul initially present a cold, strained relationship, they secretly ally to overthrow their brother. Loki later gives Thanos information about the Space Stone on Earth in exchange for assistance conquering Asgard. 163 396

His pursuit of the Infinity Stones is driven by both ambition and his obsession with the Goddess of Death. Thanos interprets her indifference as proof that he has not committed enough destruction in her name, treating mass killing as a gift meant to win her affection. 395
