Background / History

Eight hundred years ago, Im was a wise prince named Neferon Imu and one of Joy Boy's traveling companions. He journeyed with Joy Boy, studied Birkan knowledge after returning to Birka, and was initially counted among Joy Boy's closest friends 320.

Im later betrayed Joy Boy. He won the Lunarian faction to his side, helped seize Birka's ultimate weapon, took his own throne, and united with nineteen other kings against Birka. His use of the Ancient Weapon to devastate the world was a principal cause of the rising sea levels during the Void Century 320.

The betrayal was ultimately rooted in Im's jealousy over Lily, whom he believed loved Joy Boy. The truth of this motive reduced the world-shaping conflict to an act of possessiveness and resentment 321.

Following Joy Boy's defeat, Im became the secret ruler behind the World Government founded by the Twenty Kings. He survived into the present era, with his longevity and stitched, altered body linked to the Immortal Surgery 331 347.

Im normally conceals his body beneath a long black robe and a sharp, elongated crown. His physical features remain deliberately hidden for much of the story 331 332.

Im is secretive, controlling, and accustomed to absolute obedience. He treats the Gorosei, Knights of God, Celestial Dragons, and even the Marines as expendable pieces in preserving his rule. When his hidden authority becomes known, he chooses escalation rather than compromise, ordering the use of Uranus and the disposal of anyone who knows too much 336.

His composure collapses when confronted with reminders of Joy Boy and Lily. Ian's revelations about Lily provoke an immediate, emotional reaction, exposing the jealousy beneath Im's long-maintained detachment 341.

Despite ruling from the shadows for centuries, Im ultimately fears death. Once Ian surpasses him, he abandons Uranus, flees repeatedly through teleportation, and begs for his life after being reduced to a severed head 355 358.
