Background / History

Jiang Wantang was found abandoned at the Jiang family’s doorstep as a three-month-old infant during heavy snowfall, wearing a piece of Glazed Ancient Jade. After failing to locate her family, Jiang Chenzhou and Qin Mengxuan adopted her and publicly raised her as their biological daughter; only her adoptive parents and Jiang Jianguo knew the truth. 8

After completing university early at nineteen, Wantang met Nangong Lingxiang, who had come to the Jiang family because of her connection with Jiang Jianguo. After assessing Jiang Che as unsuitable for martial arts, Nangong Lingxiang accepted Wantang as her disciple instead. Wantang trained on Fengming Mountain for seven years, receiving her master’s complete teachings and becoming Illusory Moon Palace’s first true disciple. 7 360 441

Her decision to pursue martial arts was strongly connected to her desire to protect Jiang Che. She trained for years with the intention of shielding him from hostile forces and once regarded protecting him for his entire life as one of her principal purposes. 180 976

After learning that the new Dragon King, Long Jiuyuan, was Shen Yaoyao’s biological father, Wantang inferred that Jiang Che’s adoption of the girl formed part of his plans against another fortunate target. She consequently decided to leave Long Jiuyuan to Jiang Che rather than intervene herself. 474

In the Imperial Capital, Wantang continued to spend time with Jiang Che’s companions. After the Shadow Guard informed her that Jiang Che and Dugu Linglong were returning from Mount Zhongnan, she visited Elizabeth and invited her to collect him at the airport. 1113
