Although the police considered them missing and presumably dead, he continued hoping they had gone away for confidential work and would eventually return. Despite a respectable college entrance examination score, he chose a local university so that he could return home every day. His university years gradually helped him reopen himself to others and recover from his earlier depression. 8 492

Before the apocalypse, Shen Jin worked at Wanyu Group and was known for solid technical skills and competence. He resigned after the chairman’s niece, despite only having a junior-high education, was chosen as department manager instead of him. 8

His two years as a weak-current engineer included routine computer, printer, and projector maintenance, but he also developed route-optimization proposals, multimedia promotions, a livestreaming platform, and the company’s website. After resigning, he made a fortune through Bitcoin and adopted the independent homebody lifestyle he preferred. 8 22

At the outbreak’s beginning, Shen Jin was transported to a grassy space and offered a sword, pickaxe, or fire. He chose the pickaxe and received the My World Auxiliary System. Rather than seek fights, he spent the next three months excavating tunnels, stockpiling supplies, and creating an underground survival base. 3 27

After rescuing Li Moxiao outside his villa, Shen Jin brought her through a concealed passage into his basement hideout. Although initially reluctant to involve himself with others, he gradually took responsibility for her safety and survival. 2 10 12

Following the disaster that scattered his original group, Shen Jin and Shang Qian developed Red Water Bay in D City. He rebuilt his industrial capacity, established a screened survivor settlement, and prepared to return to Q City to reclaim his home and avenge those he believed lost. Shen Jin initially conceals himself in armor and a helmet, which distort his speech until he removes them. His pre-serum physique is described by himself as that of a typical homebody, though months of mining and daily training noticeably improve his strength. 2 13 36

Personality

Shen Jin is fundamentally risk-averse. He prefers tunnels, traps, surveillance, stockpiles, and carefully prepared exits to direct confrontation, believing that hiding safely is better than fighting for no reason. His personal apocalypse rules emphasize avoiding the unknown, remaining vigilant, and limiting entanglements with others. 3 5 6 21

He is resourceful and analytical, often treating survival as a logistical problem. He observes zombies before engaging them, uses terrain to eliminate enemies, studies the limits of his equipment, and prioritizes technology over combat upgrades. 6 15 28 36

Despite his self-interested rhetoric, Shen Jin repeatedly protects others when his conscience is involved. He rescues Li Moxiao, intervenes when Lu Qiang assaults Shang Qian, protects the exhausted Sun Can, and gathers survivors to complete the settlement mission. 2 17 19 43 45

Shen Jin is also teasing, easily embarrassed by romantic situations, and prone to hiding his concern behind jokes or practical demands. He frequently provokes Li Moxiao and Shang Qian, while remaining wary of emotional attachments and of anyone discovering the true nature of his system. 10 19 21 23

His understanding of caution changes as his responsibilities grow. At Red Water Bay, he concludes that safety requires planned development and sufficient strength rather than simply remaining indoors. Zhu Dan’s example later helps him adopt the principle of helping the wider world when he has the capacity, without entirely abandoning self-preservation. 88 260

As a leader, he values trustworthiness, restraint, and loyalty when distributing power. He is reluctant to empower someone driven solely by revenge, and recognizes the danger of Superhumans abusing ordinary survivors. He also becomes conscious that his authority encourages subordinates to agree with him, and sometimes withholds his own opinion to obtain more honest advice. 178 435

His confrontation with the Divine Assembly marks a stronger willingness to accept danger for others. He rejects the idea of sacrificing Xing Lingmin merely to make his own life easier, declaring that some things matter more than life. Shen Jin initially underestimates his own ability to advance without system potions. Hu Shou identifies this dependence as a psychological obstacle rather than a lack of accumulated power. While scavenging around his former workplace, Shen Jin encounters the Wanyu Group survivors. He infiltrates the Haima Security Supplies Store to rescue Shang Qian from Lu Qiang, but is severely injured after Lu Qiang unlocks his Gene Lock. Sun Can’s intervention saves him. 15 17 18 19

Expanding His Group

Shen Jin brings Shang Qian and the unconscious Sun Can back through his tunnels, later forming a more stable group with Li Moxiao and Yang Ao. He begins considering territory expansion, power generation, and the risks posed by evolved zombies and Transcendent humans. 24 30 31 33

Serum and Settlement Mission

After recovering Gene Optimization Serum 1.0, Shen Jin takes a dose himself and improves his physique. He then acts on the system’s requirement to shelter thirty survivors, bringing former colleagues into his territory while remaining reluctant to become responsible for them permanently. 42 43 45

Horde Disaster and Red Water Bay Development

During an attempted escape from a zombie horde, Shen Jin shelters Shang Qian and Fu Wei inside an alloy enclosure and fights alongside Yang Ao and Li Moxiao. A super M-Type Zombie resists their attacks and breaks his blocks, while a Giant Zombie approaches. The ensuing separation leaves him believing several companions dead. 73 87 213

Recovering in D City, he replaces his damaged equipment and launches the Great Red Water Bay Development Plan with Shang Qian’s support. He develops industry, fortifications, observation and outer residential zones, and a screening process for new survivors. Awakening Food Creator and Building a Superhuman Force

Shen Jin awakens Food Creator and tests its initial effects, discovering a support ability capable of supplying several distinct powers.
