Background / History

Hokage candidacy and border command

Orochimaru was a strong contender for Fourth Hokage before Minato Namikaze received the position. He was subsequently stationed at the border, partly to ease the awkwardness surrounding that result, and was therefore absent from Konoha during the Nine-Tails’ Rampage. After Minato’s death, many village and frontline shinobi regarded Orochimaru as the likely Fifth Hokage 1 23.
