"Guchuan, I was still one step too late. That doctor had already been killed."
The moment he got out of bed, Guchuan heard this wonderful news.
"Then keep investigating the next person. I'm still gathering more leads on the Organization for you, so keep at it," Guchuan said solemnly.
"Okay." Conan hung up.
Guchuan had gone to so much trouble to find people with clues for him. He couldn't drag Guchuan down.
Guchuan happily emailed Gin. Completing his quota without doing anything—getting paid for nothing felt amazing.
Guchuan: Task Progress (1/20)
"Time to get up." As usual, Little Ai opened Guchuan's door.
"Can't you have a little sense of boundaries?" Guchuan looked at Little Ai in displeasure.
Walking into his room without knocking so early in the morning—what if she saw something she shouldn't?
"Heh, are you afraid I'll catch you doing something bad?" Little Ai asked with a gloomy face.
"No, it's just that we're a man and a woman. We should still be a little more careful about that." Guchuan started pulling on a sweater.
Little Ai kept her own door locked tight so he couldn't enter, yet she loved barging into his bedroom. Luckily, he had a spare key to her room. Otherwise, he'd be at too much of a disadvantage.
After breakfast, Guchuan received another call from Conan.
"Hello?"
"Guchuan, I was one step slower than the Organization again. By the time I got to that person's house, he'd already been murdered." Conan sounded deeply unwilling to accept it.
The Organization was simply too fast. He was always one step behind them.
Damn it!
"Conan, don't be too anxious," Guchuan said, genuinely concerned.
Wasn't Conan a little too efficient? In the time it took to eat one meal, he'd gotten another person killed. What if he exhausted himself? Guchuan wanted sustainable development.
"No! We've already lost two people with clues. If I stop now, I'll have even less chance of catching the Organization's trail," Conan said irritably.
"Then keep it up," Guchuan encouraged him.
"Okay."
Guchuan happily took a drink from the fridge and gulped it down. He turned on the television—another wonderful day.
Guchuan: Task Progress (2/20). Gin, give me more assignments. I want to see my limits!
Having just completed a deal, Gin was about to eat breakfast and prepare for the morning's tasks when he received Guchuan's two messages.
He'd taken out two people in such a short time?
Gin suspected Guchuan was joking with him.
Gin: I hope you're not joking. Otherwise, I'll let you know the consequences of deceiving me.
Guchuan: As everyone knows, I never lie.
As the sun rose and set, Conan slumped despondently by the roadside, looking utterly devoid of hope.
Five people—either he only found a corpse when he tracked them down, or they were killed after he had barely exchanged a few words with them. He hadn't managed to learn a single clue about the Organization.
"Guchuan, I feel so useless." Conan's voice carried an indescribable weariness.
"Conan, in my eyes, you're the most useful person there is."
Hearing Guchuan's heartfelt words, Conan nearly burst into tears. His voice even choked up.
"Guchuan, I ran around all day and didn't find a single clue about that Organization. I haven't eaten all day. I've already done everything I could to keep up with them, but it was still useless." Conan couldn't stop pouring out his grievances to Guchuan, venting all the bitterness in his heart.
Guchuan silently listened to Conan's complaints, afraid that if he spoke, Conan would hear him laughing.
Only after Conan had poured out a whole barrage of words did he finally stop. He hung up and let out a heavy breath.
"Little boy, are you Conan?" asked a girl of about eighteen.
"Uh, yes. And you are?" Conan asked in confusion.
"A gentleman named Guchuan ordered an eel rice bowl for you." The girl handed Conan the food container.
Conan finally couldn't hold it in anymore. Tears streamed uncontrollably down his face.
Waaah! Guchuan, my Guchuan!
Conan wolfed down the eel rice, and blazing determination flared up in his heart once more. Even for Guchuan's sake, he couldn't fall here.
Shinichi Kudo, let's see where your limits are!
At Guchuan's house.
Little Ai glanced at Guchuan, who was giggling foolishly, then silently took a sedative from the cabinet and offered it to him.
"What do you mean by that?" Guchuan asked darkly.
"These are the sedatives Dr. Fukuyama sent over. If you need one, I can give you an injection." There was a trace of anticipation in Little Ai's eyes.
"Put something this dangerous away right now." Guchuan gave Little Ai a tap on the head and put the sedatives back in the cabinet.
"I told you, I'm not sick. Can't any of you understand human speech?"
Guchuan: Mission targets (5/20). Gin, have you seen my limits now? Hurry up and apply for a code name for me!
Gin looked at the email and no longer wanted to reply to Guchuan.
When the mission progress had been 3, Gin had already begun to seriously doubt Guchuan. When it reached 4, Guchuan's behavior had already angered him.
Sure enough, a dog couldn't stop eating shit. And here Gin had thought Guchuan had turned over a new leaf.
Now, Gin only wanted to shoot dead that brat who kept teasing him.
"Big Brother, an outer member just reported that five of the twenty mission targets you gave Guchuan are already dead," Vodka said, full of concern.
Guchuan was so capable—would Big Brother start looking down on him in the future?
"Mm." Gin nodded calmly, though he could not hide the shock in his heart.
"Also, Boss, all five of them were murdered. The killers have all been identified by a detective and locked up in the Police Station," Vodka continued.
Gin wore an unreadable expression.
Could Guchuan really be the sort of high-IQ criminal who lured others into killing?
Gin had his doubts, but judging from Guchuan's usual behavior, it really did not seem possible.
Gin: How did you kill them?
Guchuan: Didn't I already tell you at the bar last time? You didn't seriously think I was just lucky, did you? Luck alone wouldn't make five mission targets die in one day.
Gin: What's with the detective who exposed the killers?
Guchuan: He's just a muddleheaded detective. I packaged him into a famous detective known throughout Japan. Then I handed my cases of luring others into murder over to him to solve. With how muddleheaded he is, he definitely won't discover me hiding behind it all.
With such a famous detective vouching for things, everyone else would only think the "killer" murdered the "victim" because they had a conflict. They would never suspect me or the Organization.
Guchuan's analysis was perfectly logical, and Gin was completely confused.
He could not reconcile the Guchuan who acted without thinking with this Guchuan whose every step was filled with calculations.
"Vodka, I heard Guchuan has a mental illness?" Gin suddenly asked.
"Yes, and it was diagnosed by that very famous Aoyama Mental Hospital," Vodka said.
Gin felt that he had found the truth.
Mental illness... could it be dissociative identity disorder?
Could Guchuan possibly carry out such high-IQ criminal operations? Impossible. Absolutely impossible!
