Background / History

Shiho Miyano was a researcher for The Organization and the developer of APTX4869. She discovered that the drug could shrink test subjects, concealed those results from the Organization, and later used the drug on herself to escape as a child. She carries guilt over her work and fears that anyone connected to her will suffer because of the Organization. 5 87

After waking with no memory in the Kudo residence, she is taken in by Guchuan Ning. Distrustful of him from the beginning, she considers fleeing to Professor Agasa, an orphanage, or the police rather than remain with a stranger. 5 6

Guchuan gives her a legally registered identity, Loli Guchuan, and presents her as his younger sister. She rejects the name and insists that she is Ai Haibara, while suspecting that Guchuan may know more about her past than he admits. 7

She eventually enrolls at Teitan Elementary School as a transfer student. Though uncomfortable with being treated as a child and with the identity forced upon her, she begins to enjoy the safety, friendships, and ordinary childhood she had previously lacked. 46 109
