"Hmm?"
With Morgana's help, Cole's remains were found without issue. Just as Yuan cupped them in his hands, wanting to place them together, Cole's Commander's Battle Armor shattered into pieces.
At the core of his chest, a tactical chip gleamed.
Yuan's finger gently tapped, and the tactical chip slowly flew into his hand. He murmured, "What is this? A recording chip!" and then seemed to recall something.
"Qiming, read the chip."
"Understood, Master. Reading now."
"Beep!"
A crisp sound rang out, and a figure was projected from Yuan's battle armor.
"Bruis, I am Commander Cole!" Hearing the familiar voice, Bruis and the others were stunned. They immediately stood by Yuan's side, their bodies straight, watching Cole's final recorded message.
"When you see this recording, I should have returned to the embrace of Death God. Bruis, I apologize. I failed to complete my mission and instead placed this burden solely on you, a Science Officer."
"My body has developed a problem, not physical, but mental. My state is no longer sharp enough to follow Your Excellency. Bruis, you are still young. I hope you can follow Your Excellency to the very end, find a way to save us, and die without regret for Your Excellency!"
With that, Cole straightened his body, his eyes resolute: "May Your Excellency's glory be with us all. Commander Cole, respectfully!"
"May Your Excellency's glory be with us all." Many Taotie bowed their heads and prayed in unison.
Closing the tactical chip in his hand, he left it within the battle armor's right arm. Yuan looked at Cole's body on the ground with complex emotions. No one knew his thoughts.
Bruis was about to step forward to say something, but before he could open his mouth, Morgana's gaze stopped him.
Then, under Yuan's control, all the fallen Taotie soldiers were gathered together.
Yuan stood beside them, his eyes looking straight ahead. Morgana swaggered over and said, "What? Feeling sad?"
"Sad?" Yuan softly asked himself, then shook his head. "Not exactly sad, just very complicated. Look, him."
Saying this, Yuan pointed to the Taotie at the far end with his right hand.
"He almost wet himself when he saw Death God Karl before. And that one, when I first met him, I was having a gene breakdown. He was the busiest one on the warship. One moment he was dealing with energy, the next with the engines. Cole didn't understand God-making knowledge and gave some random orders, almost killing them with exhaustion."
As he spoke, he pointed to a few more.
"Actually, I'm not familiar with them at all. I don't even bother to ask their names. The only ones I can name are Cole and Bruis. I'm really not close to the others."
At this point, a light sigh escaped Yuan's lips. Yes, they weren't close. But precisely because of this lack of closeness, it was even more precious.
But Bruis and the others didn't think that way. Their hearts were filled with passion, their eyes looking at the god before them with fervent admiration, a god who remembered them. They had never felt so valued.
A rare gentle breeze stirred on Dobilun Star, and the sun began to slowly set. The afterglow of the setting sun illuminated everyone's faces.
"The gentle breeze remains, with a touch of lingering sunset; do not say heroes' souls are sad travelers, let banners rise again to slay Yama." Yuan's words were filled with coldness, indifference, and undisguised killing intent.
"Boom!"
Fierce dark energy surged out, and in an instant, all the bodies lying on the ground were firmly frozen. Yuan made a casual gesture, and the laboratory that had been deployed in the distance was moved over.
He placed the giant ice blocks inside and sealed the door completely.
"With so many Sky Stars, you can have your eternal slumber on Dobilun Star," Yuan murmured. With his hands, the earth rumbled as if splitting open a great maw.
The laboratory floated gently into the opening, then closed, leaving no trace. Afterward, he stood somewhat dazed, gazing at the distant sunset.
At that moment, the sunset reflected in Yuan's eyes, igniting a blazing inferno.
At this moment, Morgana said nothing, merely watching Yuan intently. This was a path that gods had to walk, an indispensable part of the birth of divinity.
"Crack! Crack!" Soon, night fell.
Two bonfires were lit in the desert. Yuan and Morgana sat by one, while the other was tended by Bruis and seventeen Taotie soldiers. Thanks to Yuan's foresight, the laboratory had stored a considerable amount of supplies.
Although he had buried the laboratory as a tomb, most of the supplies were preserved. Even though he no longer used these foods for energy, he had kept a significant amount out of habit.
"Whoa, this wine has no kick."
"Of course. For you great gods, if wine from a primitive civilization had any kick, then gods would be too cheap." Morgana's words made Yuan chuckle.
After all, this was just something he brewed himself using the methods taught by the old master in the village. What kick could it have? Flames danced in his eyes, as if alive.
"Tell me about your story? Maybe you'll feel better," Morgana said.
"Huh? You're overthinking it. I'm not that fragile," Yuan waved his hand. He remembered the sacrifices the Taotie had made for him, but it was too much to ask him to be sentimental.
"I told them, 'for every gift, there is a price.' You could say we were strangers before. You drove away Death God Karl for us, you have the authority of the Hourglass, and you're going to teach me about God-making civilizations." Yuan downed his wine in one gulp, his eyes shining in the firelight.
"The gifts of fate always come with a marked price. Demon Queen Morgana, tell me what you want. So I can prepare in advance, and perhaps we can negotiate the price."
"The price of fate? You believe me!" Morgana glanced at Yuan.
"Believe you! Why wouldn't I? You're the Demon Queen, the greatest evil in the known universe. Are you going to stoop to deceiving a little kid like me? Don't lose face, Queen." Yuan's words were resolute, making Morgana happily sway.
"Hahahaha! You sly little brat, you're quite cunning." In tens of thousands of years, Morgana hadn't felt this joyful. Did she think he couldn't see through it? Believe her? He was singing better than anyone.
However, Morgana did enjoy this feeling of being trusted. More importantly, it depended on who she was talking to. If it were Karl, she would probably have cursed him out.
"The known universe is complex. God-making civilizations and Sovereign powers are even more unpredictable. You, a primitive person from a primitive civilization, accidentally became a god after being encountered by the Taotie. It's hard for you to understand all this. It's okay, the power of time will clarify everything."
Putting down her wine cup, Morgana looked at him with her beautiful eyes. "You just need to know that I will never harm you. As for the rest, I will teach you slowly when we reach a safe place."
"A safe place? What, are we in danger now?" Yuan asked, confused, and then received an unexpected answer.
Morgana suddenly gritted her teeth.
"I can almost smell their pheromones, those bitches are like shadows! Damn Kaisha, damn little angels!"
