Background / History

Before receiving her present title, Crimson Cloud Yuanjun was known as the Land Mother, a Yin God connected to Shimen Commandery. She was once framed for embezzling Incense and Fire; Zhu Guanshan’s arrangements enabled her escape, and she later became Prefecture God. 161

Daojun Kongchen elevated her in Shimen Commandery by conferring the name Crimson Cloud Yuanjun. Her Incense and Fire Divine Diagram merged into her crimson divine robe, and she received authority to transform worthy demons and Yin Gods into Ghost Gods while binding their heavenly souls within the diagram. 159

Her first major act under this authority was the transformation of Shimen Commandery’s Yin Gods and demons. Those who had committed grave evil were eliminated, while the rest became Ghost Gods subject to the Incense and Fire Divine Diagram. 159 160

She subsequently enforced the new order in Huzhou. She condemned and executed the Huzhou Day Roaming God, sealed the Day Roaming God Mansion, and oversaw the replacement of the Ghost Festival Demon Feast with the Feast of Ghosts and Gods. 165 166

Daojun Kongchen later tested her by assigning her governance of Fengzhou and its surrounding territories. When the Underworld was established, she was entrusted with constructing its system; although hall masters managed daily operations, her role was to represent Daojun Kongchen’s authority, supervise the Ghost Gods, and prevent abuses. 185 205 206
