Background
Hagoromo graduated from the Ninja Academy after defeating Might Guy in the Graduation Exam's second round, then forfeited against Rin rather than risk further injuring his peers. Though his classmates were sent toward the front lines, he remained in Konoha under Kushina Uzumaki's guidance, training and accompanying her on minor missions. 5 11
Kushina became his teacher in Lightning Release and sealing techniques. Hagoromo developed and refined high-level ninjutsu while studying the Reverse Four Symbols Sealing Technique, earning recognition from Minato Namikaze, Tsunade, and later the Third Hokage. 15 23 29
His overwhelming assault on Shukaku during the Sand attack earned him the battlefield name White Yaksha. While Kushina's sealing chains restrained the tailed beast, Hagoromo's Iron Sand and Railgun attacks became the spectacle most witnesses remembered. 39 40 50
Appearance
Hagoromo can appear gentle, harmless, and strikingly beautiful enough that strangers initially struggle to determine his sex. This contrasts sharply with his battlefield reputation and the Iron Sand gourd that makes him immediately recognizable. 177 247
- Often conceals his Konoha forehead protector beneath a mask. 97
- Carries an Iron Sand gourd on his back, which draws attention away from his otherwise unassuming appearance. 177
- Uses ink-colored facial markings in Sage Mode and silver lightning patterns in Chidori Current Third Stage. 345
- His Mystic Eyes display unusual color gradients rather than resembling a conventional dōjutsu. 307
Personality
Hagoromo is calm, analytical, and unusually adaptable in battle. He evaluates enemies through observation, intuition, and the practical value of available information; against Sasori, he identified the puppeteer's identity from his combat methods and preserved Iron Sand as proof. 111
He follows orders and protects Konoha, but his methods often differ sharply from conventional ninja conduct. He is willing to use corpses as shields, manipulate an enemy psychologically, or make destructive tactical decisions when he judges them necessary. 79 98 158
Despite his detachment, Hagoromo is protective of people he considers his own. He abandoned a confrontation with Rōshi to rescue Kakashi, acted as Minato's guard, and prioritized Mirai's safety over completing a mission perfectly. 132 213 393
His long-term actions are driven by a personal belief that the dead should not continue controlling the living. This led him to oppose the Sage of Six Paths' residual consciousness, tailed beasts, and the enduring influence of the Ōtsutsuki bloodline. 302 307
Abilities & Skills
Electromaster
Hagoromo possesses an electromagnetic ability distinct from ordinary chakra-based techniques. It enhances his physical processing, perception, projectile control, and command of Iron Sand. 38
- Corrects the trajectories of thrown weapons and calculates their paths before release. 38
- Detects nearby biological electrical signals for reconnaissance. 38
- Uses enhanced brain capacity for rapid learning, memory, and multitasking. 38 94
- Manipulates Iron Sand taken from Sasori's Third Kazekage puppet, shaping it into weapons and a portable gourd. 107 108 111
- Can use magnetic levitation, including to avoid the lava of Kaguya's Amenominaka dimension. 426
Lightning Release
Lightning Release is Hagoromo's primary chakra nature and the foundation of his speed, offense, and body enhancement. He can stimulate his body with weaker currents to preserve endurance while accelerating. 37
- Chidori / Lightning Blade — His self-created high-level thrusting technique; powerful but chakra-intensive. 9 15
- Chidori Current — Surrounds his body with paralyzing lightning, combining close-range defense and offense. 98
- Chidori Sharp Spear — An instant, seal-less lightning spear used for piercing and surprise attacks. 98
- Thunderbolt Spear — His fastest recorded targeted attack; it requires a brief activation window and can be evaded by opponents with sufficient prediction and reaction speed. 106 107
- Railgun — Fires devastating electromagnetic blasts capable of destroying Shukaku's physical form, though its battlefield use risks severe collateral damage. 40
- Kirin — Calls down natural lightning after gathering thunderclouds; Hagoromo's resistance to electricity minimizes the usual risk of self-electrocution. 89
- Lightning Garden Heavy Country·Rashomon — An ultimate electromagnetic railgun attack that destroyed Pain's barrier and multiple bodies, but left Hagoromo unconscious and nearly killed him. 231 234
Sage Mode and Sage Art
Hagoromo completed his own Sage Mode after extended training in Shikkotsu Forest. Its immediate activation distinguishes it from standard Sage Mode, which normally requires stillness and time to gather natural energy. 267 287 343
- Greatly enhances physical ability, perception, and the output of his techniques. 343
- Allows his attacks to damage or cut through Truth-Seeking Ball defenses. 304
- Lets him resist chakra absorption by making Nagato's Sealing Technique Absorption Seal ineffective. 387
- Cannot be maintained indefinitely once its Sage Art chakra is exhausted. 287
- His strongest nintaijutsu combines Sage Mode with Chidori Current Third Stage. 345
Mystic Eyes of Death Perception
Hagoromo's Demon Eyes are an innate magical art rather than a dōjutsu or bloodline ability. They cannot be copied or passed on to others. 307
- Perceive points through which life, existence, and even concepts can be erased by physical contact. 231
- Allowed Hagoromo to cut through the force of Almighty Push and threaten the Sage of Six Paths directly. 307
- Are difficult for him to open reliably and are treated as an unconventional, last-resort power. 242 306
- Their use and prolonged high-level combat impose severe mental fatigue. 308
Sealing Techniques
Taught by Kushina, Hagoromo is skilled with sealing formulas and continuously modifies techniques for specialized threats. 23 202
- Refined the Reverse Four Symbols Sealing Technique. 23
- Created the Mutually Multiplying Style: Compound Four Symbols Seal, a barrier intended to counter Kamui and protect Kushina within a safe space. 225
- Can deploy modified Reverse Four Symbols Seals offensively, including against Hashirama's Wood Human. 344
- Many of his sealing techniques require prior preparation, limiting their immediate battlefield utility. 202
Summoning and Nintaijutsu
Hagoromo uses summons to create openings, evacuate allies, support large-scale combat, and buy time for stronger attacks. 96 230
- Summons the Splitting Dog for transport and combat support. 96
- Uses the Yata Crow for infiltration, mobility, and battlefield entry. 169
- Can summon the Even-Toed Cattle, Bicorn Rhinoceros, Slug, and Rashomon. 230 344
- His taijutsu combines extreme speed, chakra control, and efficient strikes capable of rapidly defeating multiple Kirigakure ninja. 169
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Iron Sand gourd — Carries Iron Sand seized from the Third Kazekage puppet; also helps disguise Hagoromo's identity by drawing attention away from his build and face. 107 177
- Iron Sand Sword — A weapon formed and controlled through Electromaster abilities; used alongside Lightning Release in his battle with the Sage of Six Paths. 304 307
- Chakra Blade — His preferred close-combat weapon for Lightning Release Mode and Sage Mode engagements. 304 379
- Super-vibration sword — A weapon capable of breaking exceptionally large blades, used when attempting to seize Samehada. 172
- Ninja tool pouch and sealing scrolls — Carries conventional tools, supplies, and prepared sealing formulas. 167 202
Relationships
- Uzumaki Kushina — Teacher and trusted companion. She trained Hagoromo in ninjutsu and sealing, while he repeatedly protected her during tailed-beast crises. 11 39 225
- Namikaze Minato — Mentor-like senior and later the Hokage Hagoromo guards. Hagoromo respects Minato's strength, humility, and devotion to Konoha. 13 158 213
- Hatake Kakashi — Fellow Konoha ninja and long-time ally. Hagoromo saved Kakashi from Mei Terumī and later worked with him on missions involving tailed beasts. 132 286
- Might Guy — Academy rival whom Hagoromo defeated in the Graduation Exam. Their relationship remains respectful, and Hagoromo later honors Might Dai's sacrifice. 5 185
- Orochimaru — Uneasy associate. Orochimaru wants to study Hagoromo's body and abilities, while Hagoromo refuses to become a research subject but will cooperate when their interests align. 160 366
- Jiraiya — Senior ally who verifies Hagoromo's intelligence and discusses major threats, including Akatsuki and the Sage of Six Paths' Eye. 111 297
- Uzumaki Mirai — A child raised and trained by Hagoromo. Her loyalty to him becomes so strong that she equates his enemies with her own. 269 393
- Nagato — A recurring enemy whose Rinnegan and Pain bodies forced Hagoromo into some of his most dangerous battles. Hagoromo defeated Pain but initially regarded Nagato himself as unbeaten. 231 241 387

Trivia
- Hagoromo's name is shared with Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo, the Sage of Six Paths; the Sage himself finds the coincidence noteworthy. 307
- He considers the Rinnegan “probably the kind of invincible dōjutsu,” despite defeating Pain's bodies. 241
- He struggles to explain complex techniques to others, notably while trying to teach Naruto the Rasengan. 294
- A later film, A Generation of Ninshu, fictionalizes his life as the White Yaksha and includes fabricated dialogue involving Jiraiya. 294
