Background / History

Kushina was an Uzumaki-descended Konoha Jonin whose status as the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki made her both a major asset and a heavily protected target. Konoha generally kept her from the front lines because she could not perfectly control Kurama and the village could not afford to lose the Nine-Tails. 8 10

She became Kamishiro Hagoromo's teacher shortly after his graduation. Although he was her only disciple, his rapid progress quickly turned their training into a collaboration: Kushina designed the Reverse Four Symbols Sealing Technique, while Hagoromo performed its complex calculations. 8 10 11 Their completed S-rank forbidden technique successfully exceeded its intended range during testing, but damaged Konoha's barrier and surrounding terrain. 17 18

After she and Hagoromo infiltrated the Hokage Office to access the Sealing Scroll, Kushina received four months of house arrest. Upon release, she submitted fifty petitions a day until the Third Hokage assigned her to escort medical ninja to the Sunagakure front. 20 22

Kushina remained at the frontline command post despite the risks of exposing the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki. During Sunagakure's assault, she restrained Shukaku with Adamantine Sealing Chains while drawing on Kurama's chakra; however, suppressing Shukaku also agitated Kurama within her. 31 37 42 After being transported away from the battlefield, she refused to return to Konoha without Hagoromo and was ultimately brought home by Minato. 45 49

Her active career included more than thirty A-rank and twenty S-rank missions, though Konoha's treatment of Jinchūriki frequently confined her to the village despite her ability. 214 She later married Minato Namikaze, stepped away from regular ninja duties, and became pregnant with their twins, Naruto and Mirai. 220 222 224

During the Nine-Tails incident, Kushina lost Kurama and became fatally weakened beyond the reach of medical ninjutsu.
