Background / History
During the [Demon's Nest] uprising, Bai Yueming publicly identified the Spirit Summoning Society as responsible for crossing a line in Shanghai City. His intervention dispersed the fog over the city and destroyed the monsters within it, thwarting the Society's scheme 4. The organization continued operating through low-level members such as Brother Hu, whose attempted assassination of Lu Su exposed the Society as an active threat within Shanghai 38.
Lu Su entered the Society after signing a contract arranged by Gu Wu. Because the contract mistakenly treated the deceased original owner of Lu Su's body as its signatory, Lu Su was not actually controlled by Jin Ping. He subsequently operated as an undercover member, accepting Society resources while concealing his true allegiance 57 66 78.
As Lu Su's standing rose, the Society recognized him as the Sixth Master. He used the identity of Lu Xi to take command of Donglai members, receive materials, gather intelligence on the Guiyi Cult, and direct recruitment efforts 172 202 204 220. His subordinates Mo Yu and Zeng Bo carried out his order to assassinate Donglai Card Master Association Chairman Sima Huai, an act publicly attributed to the Spirit Summoning Society 237 241 243.
Lu Su ultimately revealed his membership to Bai Yueming and helped expose Jin Ping's plans. Bai Yueming and Adley intervened at the Society's stronghold near [Demon's Nest], while Lu Su defected and participated in transferring control of the contracts that bound many members 329 330. Following the failed operation, the Society was described as existing only in name, with Lu Su and his former subordinates organizing surviving members in Shanghai City 335 339 341.
