Background

Ulquiorra was originally a pure-white humanoid Hollow born in Hueco Mundo with only the sense of sight. Rejected by other Hollows, he wandered alone and fixated on questions of identity and the nature of the heart. When his Hollow mask shattered near a grove of white trees, he evolved and resumed his solitary journey. He avoided needless conflict but fought other Hollows when survival required it, steadily becoming stronger through battle. 255

After Aizen conquered Las Noches, he transformed Ulquiorra into an Arrancar with the Hogyoku and appointed him the Fourth Espada. Ulquiorra gained Resurrección and continued questioning what a “heart” truly was. 255

Under Aizen's orders, Ulquiorra investigated Kurosaki Ichigo, abducted Orihime Inoue to draw Ichigo into Hueco Mundo, and repeatedly confronted Ichigo in Las Noches. He unveiled a Second Stage Resurrection that even Aizen had not seen, but was ultimately defeated after Ichigo entered complete Hollowfication; Ulquiorra then disintegrated into dust. 270

Lu Su later created Ulquiorra as a Gold Grade card. An Unstable Hogyoku elevated him into the incomplete World of Nothingness form, after which Lu Su transformed him into Jade Grade No. 4 Ulquiorra Cifer. 255 257 270

Appearance

Ulquiorra has short black hair, deathly pale skin, and two dark-green tear streaks running down his face. His usual demeanor is cold and restrained. 255

Personality

Ulquiorra is emotionally detached, analytical, and habitually expressionless. His representative form of death is “Nothingness”; because he lacks a heart, emotion-based effects do not affect him in battle. 255

Despite this detachment, Ulquiorra persistently contemplates the meaning of the heart and existence. He does not relish killing his own kind, though he accepts violence as necessary under Hueco Mundo's law of survival. 255

As Lu Su's card, he is completely obedient and executes commands without hesitation. His speech remains calm even when confronting opponents far stronger than ordinary Jade Grade enemies. 257 259 272
