Background / History
Bai Yueming is one of Great Ming's three Master Card Masters and the leading Card Master stationed along the coast. As [Yanluo], he safeguards the Coastal Defense Line against maritime Secret Realms and demon activity, declaring that the line would not fall while he remained alive 4 39.
During the [Demon's Nest] crisis in Shanghai City, Bai manifested [Fifth Hall Yanluo King Zheng] above the city. A single breath dispersed the fog blanketing Shanghai and reduced the monsters within it to ash, ending the immediate crisis 4. He subsequently investigated the Spirit Summoning Society's infiltration of Association personnel, identifying its use of financial desperation and contracts to turn Card Masters into monsters 17.
Bai first noticed Lu Su after the latter exposed and killed a rogue Card Master connected to a Secret Realm incident. He considered Lu Su too promising to be a disposable Spirit Summoning Society pawn and advised him to be wary of mysterious funding 16 17. After Lu Su's performance in the Talent Cup, Bai offered to accept him as a disciple if he placed within the top three of the Jiang Province Unified Examination and chose Nanda University 39. Lu Su later became his disciple and received Bai's underworld card-crafting notes and Silver Grade materials, though Bai had to return to his Coastal Defense Line duties instead of teaching personally 92.
Bai openly intervened when the Wu Family targeted Lu Su. He destroyed their estate as a warning, then accepted negotiation only after Master Card Master Wei Zheng intervened and Lu Su agreed that a settlement would not burden his teacher 159 160. He also arranged and sponsored a Jade Grade barrier for Lu Su's rematch with Wu Di 162.
As Great Ming's conflict between the Association and Imperial Court intensified, Bai supported the Association's takeover while insisting that culpable court officials be investigated rather than indiscriminately purged. He intended to use [Investigator Judge Lu Zhi Dao] to determine each official's responsibility 318 320.
Bai later helped Lu Su sever the Spirit Summoning Society's contract network, sought Adley's assistance to transfer contracts away from Jin Ping, and entrusted Lu Su with inherited contracts to protect innocent Society members 329. When Jin Ping captured Lu Su, Bai affirmed his trust in his disciple and used a blackening effect that engulfed Jin Ping, Hermes, Marcus, and Lu Su 330.
During the Master Grade Secret Realm crisis off Shanghai's coast, Bai was forced to defend the city while worrying over Lu Su's isolation against Chris. He refused Jin Ping's demand to choose between Shanghai City and his disciple, splitting his cards between both battlefields 343. He later fought alongside Ji Weirui against Jin Ping's forces after Ye Zhou's death, and continued defending Great Ming through the Four Calamity Gods crisis 368 411.
Appearance
Bai Yueming is an elderly man whose physical condition reflects years of combat injuries and sustained front-line duty. He is described with an aged face and pale brows; after returning from Antarctica, he appeared noticeably shorter, thinner, and more stooped than before 92 197 316.
- His aged appearance is not natural longevity alone: accumulated injuries and a lack of body-strengthening cards left him in an irreversible condition 197.
- Despite his frailty, he retains the pressure and combat capability of a Master Grade Card Master 343 411.
Personality
Bai is compassionate toward ordinary people and views defending them as more important than the power struggle between the Association and the Imperial Court. He remains on the Coastal Defense Line despite the personal cost because he cannot ignore the people living behind it 4 49.
He is patient and gentle with Lu Su, offering resources without demanding a matching card system or strict adherence to his own path. He considers Lu Su a genuine disciple rather than merely a talented asset, and regrets being unable to teach him personally 92 159.
Beneath his calm demeanor, Bai is uncompromising when his disciples or the public are threatened. He is willing to destroy an aristocratic estate, confront other Master Card Masters, and risk his remaining lifespan rather than allow the powerful to exploit those under his protection 159 160 343.
Abilities & Skills
Master Grade Underworld Card System
Bai's card system centers on underworld and judicial imagery, forming the basis of his title as [Yanluo].
- [Fifth Hall Yanluo King Zheng] — Bai's core card. It manifests as a colossal figure over Shanghai City; its breath cleared the [Demon's Nest] fog and annihilated the monsters concealed within it 4.
- [Red Robe Judge] — Can pronounce judgment on a target. When Liu Jianghe's crimes were named, an unseen force severed his head, though he later regenerated 45.
- [King Chujiang · Li Wen] — A Master Grade card capable of manifesting an Ice Hell within a Secret Realm 344.
- [Investigator Judge Lu Zhi Dao] — Intended to investigate court officials and determine their proper punishment after the Association's seizure of power 318.
Dimensional Magic
Bai can deploy large-scale dimensional magic for battlefield extraction and repositioning.
- During the battle against the Four Calamity Gods, he created a massive magic circle and relocated Lu Su's cards out of immediate danger 411.
- This mobility enables guerrilla tactics against stronger opponents inside Secret Realms 411.
Command and Crisis Response
- Directs Association responses to Secret Realm incursions and ordered nationwide alerts and evacuations when Jin Ping's actions threatened Great Ming 367.
- Can divide his combat resources across simultaneous emergencies, though doing so leaves him unable to commit his full strength to either front 343 344.
- Maintains extensive knowledge of the Spirit Summoning Society, including Jin Ping's recruitment methods and long-term schemes 17 329.

Trivia
- Bai's public title [Yanluo] derives not only from his underworld-themed cards, but also from the fear his power inspires 159.
- He was already visibly near the end of his lifespan by the time of the Association's conflict with the Imperial Court, but refused Lu Su's offer to seek a means of extending it 318.
