Background / History

Rias is the first life born in the Underworld and, alongside Utred, one of the eldest Four Rule Overlords. Her birthplace lies on a death-energy-saturated island in the Nether Sea. She later chooses Nether Mountain as her residence because it is the Underworld’s tallest mountain, believing its ruler should occupy the highest place 64 103.

Her hostility toward Utred stems partly from an earlier series of public challenges. After attaining Great Perfection, he defeated both Rias and Vivian before an audience of Sovereigns. Their alliance helped protect them from being killed, but Rias resented the humiliation. Utred’s subsequent defeat by Of, witnessed by the same audience, pleased her 76.

Before meeting Jie Ning, Rias passed time watching undead battles through the Heart of the Underworld. His unusually intelligent “Special Undead” introduced tactics and betrayals that renewed her interest. Discovering the Soul Seeds inside them turned that entertainment into a possible route toward Great Perfection and prompted her first direct approach to him 64.

Personality

Rias is impatient, playful, and easily bored. She values an Envoy’s ability to entertain her more than their combat strength, enjoys teasing nervous subordinates, and prefers inventive trials to straightforward fighting. Soul Seed experiences become her favorite form of entertainment, allowing her to follow adventures from their participants’ perspectives 64 80 81 112.

Her amusement frequently comes at others’ expense. She manipulates Soul Seed hosts to create dramatic situations, wants troublesome Underworld inhabitants “reformed” through her trials, and names the Abyss’s future inhabitants “Demons” partly to irritate Utred. When convinced Of robbed her Ghost Castle, she treats his failure to identify the culprit as further evidence against him and escalates the dispute into combat 68 92 97 105.

She is also generous and protective toward those she values. She obtains Sovereign Sparks for Jie Ning, refuses Of’s demand to reclaim his Fate Spark, and gives Jie Ning a Supreme Artifact for self-defense. Her concern extends to their daughter Meini, despite her often-irritated manner toward the child 87 103 122.
