Background / History

The Tian Dou Empire was an established continental power and the longtime rival of the Xing Luo Empire. It was considered militarily weaker than Xing Luo, and Xue Luochuan's declaration of independence from his Tian Dou fief created a major internal crisis. Emperor Xue Ye ordered Crown Prince Xue Qinghe to command 30,000 troops against the newly founded Chang'an Empire. 1

The campaign ended in disaster. Chang'an defeated the 30,000-man force, captured Xue Qinghe, and rapidly took five nearby Tian Dou cities. With Xing Luo troops massing at the border and neighboring states mobilizing, Xue Ye feared that the empire faced destruction. 9

Xue Ye escalated the war by raising a Five Route Army of 200,000 troops. The force included Yu Yuanzhen of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan and experts from the Five Elements Academy, but all five armies were repelled by Chang'an; fewer than 80,000 troops returned. The defeats undermined public order, allowing bandits and roving outlaws to spread across the empire. 10 13 29 31

Spirit Hall subsequently sent 10,000 Soul Masters and several Titled Douluo to aid Tian Dou. Tian Dou contributed another 200,000 troops to an alliance exceeding 300,000 soldiers, led by Ning Fengzhi. The alliance broke apart after Qian Renxue's identity as the disguised Crown Prince Xue Qinghe was exposed, revealing Spirit Hall's long-running infiltration of Tian Dou's succession. 32 34 35

Chang'an later captured three Tian Dou border cities in a single day, despite suffering over 10,000 killed or wounded among its 30,000 attackers. Tian Dou was increasingly caught between Chang'an's expansion and its worsening tensions with Spirit Hall. 37

After the destruction of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan and the submission of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, Xue Ye formally declared war on Chang'an and requested assistance from Spirit Hall and Xing Luo. He offered Chang'an territory and additional Tian Dou cities as compensation for their support. 78

During the resulting siege of Chang'an's Great Wall, Han Xin led 3,000 Battle Armor soldiers in a surprise assault on Heaven Dou City. Di Renjie arrested Xue Ye, Prince Xue Xing died, and Chang'an captured the Tian Dou imperial capital. Tian Dou troops then turned on their Xing Luo allies along the Great Wall while Chang'an forces attacked Xing Luo-held cities. 81 82 83 84

Following the fall of the capital, sects, nobles, and Soul Master factions seized much of the former Tian Dou territory under the banner of restoring the empire. Chang'an initially controlled only the imperial capital, but spent years suppressing these factions and reclaiming the former Tian Dou cities. 84 86 97 98 131

Imperial leadership

• Emperor Xue Ye — The empire's ruler throughout its conflict with Chang'an. He repeatedly sought to recover lost territory, preserve the imperial line, and prevent national collapse. 1 9 31 78 83
• Crown Prince Xue Qinghe — Initially appointed commander against Chang'an; later exposed as Qian Renxue in disguise, compromising Tian Dou's political legitimacy and its relationship with Spirit Hall. 1 9 34
• Prince Xue Xing — Represented imperial authority during the Five Route Army campaign and later died after Xue Ye's capture. 13 29 83
• Prince Xue Beng — Participated in the Five Route Army expedition while secretly intending to eliminate Xue Qinghe and become sole heir. 13

Five Elements Academy

The Five Elements Academy was Tian Dou's collective term for its five strongest Soul Master academies. Each had a Soul Douluo-level expert or stronger, and they were recruited to reinforce the Five Route Army. 10
