Background / History

Founding and Independence

Xue Luochuan founded the Chang'an Empire after declaring independence from his fief within the Heaven Dou Empire. The new state initially consisted of a remote border city with fewer than 2,000 defenders, making it appear unable to withstand Heaven Dou's retaliation. 1

Heaven Dou Emperor Xue Ye ordered Crown Prince Xue Qinghe to suppress Chang'an with 30,000 troops. Xue Luochuan relied on the King Summoning System, which allowed him to summon heroes from King's Continent; its rewards increased as his territory expanded. 1

Chang'an's first summoned hero, Li Xin, was a Level 81 Soul Douluo capable of devastating area attacks. He led the defense against Heaven Dou's first expedition and became the empire's principal military deterrent. 2

Defeating Heaven Dou's Expeditions

Chang'an crushed Heaven Dou's 30,000-man invasion force, defeated the Titled Douluo Snake Lance Douluo, forced Porcupinefish Douluo to flee, and captured Xue Qinghe alive. The victory transformed public opinion within Chang'an, bringing its citizens and local nobles behind Xue Luochuan's rule. 7

Afterward, Chang'an demanded the surrender of neighboring Heaven Dou cities: compliant City Lords could retain office after transferring military control, while resistance would bring Li Xin's army against them. 7

Heaven Dou later deployed five armies totaling roughly 200,000 troops against Chang'an's six cities. Despite Chang'an's smaller force, the campaign ended with the five armies retreating; fewer than 80,000 Heaven Dou soldiers returned. 13 31

A larger coalition of Heaven Dou, Spirit Hall, Xing Luo, and smaller states subsequently assembled more than 300,000 troops against Chang'an. Xue Luochuan repelled this alliance without losing a soldier, resolving the empire's immediate military crisis. 32 35

Consolidation and Expansion

Following the coalition's withdrawal, Chang'an shifted toward internal consolidation. Xue Luochuan initiated a major anti-corruption campaign to recover funds and remove entrenched local officials before beginning construction of the Great Wall. 35

The empire later seized three Heaven Dou cities in a single day. Although more than 10,000 of Chang'an's 30,000 attacking soldiers were killed or wounded, the campaign captured over 20,000 prisoners and extended Chang'an's territory. 37 38

Chang'an captured Gengxin City, a vital source of metal for the great empires, and renamed it Mohist Mechanical City. The city became a center for Mechanical Paths research and production under Mozi and Lou Gao. 53 57

After subduing the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, Chang'an gained the allegiance of more than 5,000 sect members and access to the sect's considerable wealth and logistical capacity. 77

Fall of Heaven Dou

During a three-front war against Heaven Dou, Xing Luo, and Spirit Hall, Chang'an launched a surprise assault on the Heaven Dou imperial capital. Han Xin's Battle Armor unit created an opening for Di Renjie to arrest Xue Ye. 79 82

Chang'an captured Xue Ye alive, arrested key Heaven Dou figures, and renamed Heaven Dou City as Chang'an Royal City. Xue Luochuan later entered the city, made it the Chang'an imperial capital, and exiled members of his former imperial family. 83 85

The empire did not immediately control all former Heaven Dou territory; many cities were occupied by independent sects and Soul Master factions. While Chang'an's principal forces held the Great Wall against Xing Luo and Spirit Hall, it gradually reconquered the remaining cities from the rear. 86 97

By the time of the Clear Sky Sect's destruction, Chang'an had unified its own territory and no longer faced major threats within former Heaven Dou lands. 131 132

Territory, Infrastructure & Institutions

Great Wall

The Great Wall encircled Chang'an's cities and connected them into a single defensive network. Viewed from above, it resembled an enormous city containing several smaller cities within its perimeter. 36
