Background / History

Madara was born during the Warring States period, when the Uchiha and Senju clans were locked in relentless conflict. He lost five younger brothers to war; Hashirama Senju similarly lost siblings, allowing the two boys to bond over grief and their shared dream of ending the cycle of violence. 304

Madara and Hashirama eventually led their clans into an alliance and founded Konoha. Their partnership collapsed after the village’s creation: Madara wanted the Uchiha to leave Konoha, but no clan members followed him. He departed alone, later returned while controlling the Nine-Tails, and fought Hashirama at the Valley of the End. Though believed dead after his defeat, he escaped through Izanami. 304

After awakening the Rinnegan, Madara transplanted his original eyes into Nagato and survived in an underground refuge through the Gedo Statue’s life force. There he began preparing the Moon Eye Plan, using White Zetsu, Black Zetsu, and Tobi to locate successors and manipulate events across the shinobi world. 179 306

Appearance

Madara’s appearance changes drastically with his condition and revivals. His original underground body is elderly, white-haired, hunched, and dependent on the Gedo Statue; after restoration, he regains black hair, healthy skin, and a youthful voice. 179 246

  • Wears red Warring States-era armor when appearing before the Five Kage. 457
  • Possesses Sharingan, Mangekyō Sharingan, and later Rinnegan-based dōjutsu. 246 248
  • Takes on a white, nine-tomoe-marked robe after completing his Six Paths transformation. 481
  • Develops a horn and a Nine-Tomoe Rinnegan before casting Infinite Tsukuyomi. 486

Personality

Madara is deeply disillusioned with the shinobi world. He sees recurring wars as proof that Hashirama’s village-based peace failed, and believes only absolute power and control can permanently end conflict. 179 247 482

He is proud, confrontational, and intensely stubborn. Even after Yūske explains Black Zetsu’s likely manipulation, Madara refuses to abandon the Moon Eye Plan, arguing that peace cannot survive without overwhelming force. 467 482

Madara respects exceptional opponents, especially Hashirama and Yūske. He repeatedly attempts to recruit Yūske rather than immediately kill him, enjoys battling him as an equal, and acknowledges Yūske’s superiority after their Six Paths-level clash. 247 457 472 485
