Background

Murphy is a transmigrator who arrived in this world during his third year at Hogwarts. He was born to Sanders and Natalie Darkholme, both identified as Death Eaters; after their deaths, he inherited a dilapidated house and several hundred Galleons of debt. His family background made him a target at school, until he stopped further bullying by breaking the legs of those who targeted him. 2 233

A Ravenclaw student, Murphy spent his school breaks practicing spells and researching potions. He developed a markedly more serious interest in magic than most wizards around him, particularly resenting their dismissal of Muggle methods and scientific reasoning. 5 121

After graduation, Murphy’s exceptional academic record did not secure him a career. He was rejected from the Auror Office because evaluators considered him impulsive, risk-prone, disobedient, and prejudiced against the wizarding world; his parents’ status as Dark wizards further disqualified him. 1 2

Magic Power Assessment

Murphy’s revised Magic Power Tester results were recorded as follows: 117

Dimension Score
Mind 15.19
Control 16.56
Evocation 13.80
Creation 15.37
Protection 17.48
Transformation 13.33
Average 15.29

Appearance

Murphy’s ordinary appearance is seldom described in detail, partly because he frequently uses disguises, Polyjuice Potion, and transformation magic. His most distinctive appearances are tied to his Animagus development.

  • Raven form — a raven Animagus form with enhanced aerial mobility and senses. 136
  • Hybrid demon form — a hooved, horned giant with black scales, black wings, and lightning-filled eyes. 226
  • Post-repair form — his unstable scales and feathers recede, while two additional pairs of smaller black wings emerge from his Thunderbird-derived traits. 449

Personality

Murphy is ambitious, impatient, and intensely self-directed. The Auror Office’s personality assessment identifies his impulsiveness, appetite for risk, lack of obedience, and dissatisfaction with wizarding society; these traits continue to shape both his research and political conduct. 2

His central motivation is the pursuit of immortality, knowledge, and ever-greater capability. He approaches magic as a subject to be measured, understood, and engineered through scientific methods rather than inherited convention. 50 255

Murphy can be compassionate toward people he considers his own, notably Patrick Duncan and his family, but he is also willing to deceive, torture, alter memories, and use others as experimental resources when pursuing his objectives. 18 143 154 175

  • Developed magical radar models capable of scanning immense areas and locating distant magical signals. 307 351
  • Learned to expand his own magical field and operate as a living magic radar. 466
  • Can manipulate magical matter at atomic scale and create nanomaterial weapons with microscopic and macroscopic states. 452 455

Time Travel and Divine Power

Murphy has acquired power comparable to gods without accepting divine domains as part of his identity.

  • Possesses large quantities of divine power absorbed from gods, while claiming not to possess divine domains. 455
  • Treats acquired divinities as tools for storing and transforming spiritual power rather than allowing them to define him. 469
  • Has developed increasingly proficient time-jump capabilities connected to the spirit world. 461 473
  • Uses divine power and legend manipulation to mislead gods and exploit their beliefs. 455 470

Murphy risks conflict with the Aurors to secure treatment for Patrick and his family after a werewolf attack. 12 143 291
  • Locke — Goblin financial partner who helps Murphy acquire and move wizarding currency; Murphy’s business success contributes to Locke’s promotion at Gringotts. 12 13 76
  • Alex Wood — Potion-maker recruited by Murphy to process materials and brew products. Wood reveals Murphy’s name under torture, straining their working relationship. 12 18
  • Andrew Tuke — Transfiguration researcher and physician who guides Murphy’s advanced Animagus work and examines the consequences of his transformation. 121 134 136

Story Role and Major Arcs

Potion Enterprise and the Magic Research Institute

After failing to find suitable employment, Murphy turns his enhanced Essence of Dittany into a Muggle pharmaceutical business. He conceals his ownership behind “Murphys Anon,” uses Patrick as the public face of the company, recruits Alex Wood, and plans a secret supply chain for raw materials. 1 9 12

Murphy expands this venture into Umbrella Corporation and the Magic Research Institute, treating Muggle scientists and wizards as collaborators in a long-term effort to quantify and industrialize magic. He introduces contribution-point systems, public research review, and restrictive Thorn Oaths to control his researchers. 46 50

Conflict with the Aurors and Rise to Power

Murphy’s methods bring him into escalating conflict with the Auror Office. He defeats Draco Malfoy with lethal Dark magic, builds security stores that function as a potential replacement Auror force, and gains influence among fringe wizards and Ministry officials. 18 76 115

By exploiting the conflict between pure-blood factions, the Aurors, and Ministry leadership, Murphy establishes control over key British Ministry departments. Auror Headquarters, the Watchmen, and internal inspection authority are ultimately placed under leaders loyal to him. 170 291

Advanced Animagus Crisis

Seeking a high-level Animagus transformation, Murphy uses Patronus-guided genetic methods developed by the Transfiguration Research Group. His raven Patronus becomes the basis for an advanced transformation, but a battle with a Thunderbird and Petrifying Lizard forces him to consume Dittany Promoter under extreme conditions. 121 134 135 148

The potion causes an uncontrolled multi-Animagus mutation. Murphy kills the Thunderbird, survives an egg-like metamorphosis, and emerges with a powerful but physically damaging hybrid form connected to lightning and his flock of ravens. 149 150 151 152

Hogwarts Reform and the Philosopher’s Stone

Murphy enters Hogwarts by donating substantial funds, securing a seat on the Board of Governors, and proposing a permanent resident governor position. He also becomes Professor of Practical Lessons, giving him a formal role in the school while he seeks the Philosopher’s Stone. 172 173 180

At Hogwarts, Murphy challenges the house system, promotes cross-house cooperation, emphasizes practical experimentation, and later reshapes the curriculum around Muggle sciences and intensive examination systems. 192 193 207 296

He initially considers stealing the Philosopher’s Stone, but Nicolas Flamel later willingly bequeaths it to him. 173 233 279

International Expansion and Magic–Muggle Integration

Murphy extends his influence into the Soviet Union and Arkaim, forming ties with Sophia and seeking large numbers of wizards for research. He pursues gradual exposure of magic to Muggle society, increased scientific literacy among wizards, and international coordination through the Wizard Alliance. 264 291 294 376

As magical levels rise, Murphy creates the Magic Revival Countermeasures Bureau within the Muggle government and establishes the War Wolf rapid-response force. 389

Wizard Emperor and the Gods

Murphy’s political and military power reaches a global scale when the United States surrenders to the Anglo-Soviet Alliance. He takes control of American nuclear weapons and deploys orbital nuclear deterrence across the world. 441

After traveling to Camelot’s era, Murphy discovers that Merlin is a hostile “son of god” created by Britain’s native gods. He kills Merlin, scans his memories, assumes the Merlin identity, and leads enslaved wizards in building a Magic Web node. 462 466

Murphy uses the Magic Web as both a productivity tool and a means of harvesting magical power from its users. When the Gods of Danu move to eliminate him, he prepares his disciples for survival, fakes his death, and escapes through time. 468 471 473
