Boggart: So You're the Chosen One?
The girl before Loren wore a pure white dress, her fair cheeks seemingly flushed with the glow of the setting sun, shy and demure. Her eyes were slightly lowered, her long eyelashes casting shadows on her face. She tilted her head slightly, tiptoed, and her lips—
"Loren Morgan!"
Hermione's face, which had finally calmed down, flushed red again. She wished she could stuff Loren and Boggart back into the closet together.
Hermione shoved Harry and pulled the wretched Loren Morgan back, then punched him hard in the back a few times.
Turning to look at everyone, Lupin, Harry, and Ron exchanged a strange look for a moment, and the three of them simultaneously looked up to examine the furnishings in the Staff Room.
"The weather's nice today, isn't it?"
"That's right, that's right, some of the tables and chairs in this room are still usable, right?"
"..."
"Ahem!" Finally, Professor Lupin stepped forward. "You may begin, Harry."
Harry took two steps forward, and Boggart changed shape almost instantly.
A Dementor appeared in the spot, its hooded face turned toward Harry, a withered, pale hand gripping the cloak, and began to float Silencio toward Harry, emitting a low, gurgling breath.
A chill that seeped into his bones enveloped Harry...
Almost without any ripples, Harry collapsed to the ground with a "thud".
Onlookers: "..."
Ron quickly went to check on Harry, while Professor Lupin muttered "Riddikulus" as he put Boggart back into the cupboard once more.
Hermione caught a glimpse of Boggart turning into a silver sphere again.
Loren looked thoughtfully at the silent cabinet containing Boggart.
The things that Boggart transforms should only have appearances and cannot imitate the same power or magic, just like Banshee that Seamus just summoned could scream its lungs out and no one would get hurt.
Otherwise, Voldemort wouldn't have needed to develop Death Eater; he could have mass-produced an army of Riddle simply by releasing Boggart everywhere.
But Harry collapsed instantly, which means that the Boggart did indeed possess some Dementor characteristics. Most incredibly, it mimicked the unique Magic Power of Dementor.
Magic Power is unique; this is a consensus among all Magical Creatures. The Magic Power of wizards, the Magic Power of Veela, the Magic Power of fairies, the Magic Power of House-elf ... the Magic Power of different creatures gives rise to different magical properties, clearly distinct from one another.
Even spells with similar effects are fundamentally different. For example, a wizard's Binding Charm petrifies, while Basilisk's gaze petrifies. Although the petrification effect is the same, the mechanisms by which the Magic Power works are completely different, and the ways to undo the petrification are also different.
Loren was curious about how far Boggart's imitation could go and whether there were any limitations.
Not far away, Ron slapped Harry awake with a few slaps. Harry lay on his back on the floor, staring blankly at the ceiling. It took him a while to realize where he was.
"Are you alright?" Ron waved his hand in front of his eyes.
"I'm sorry!" Harry said dejectedly, cold sweat dripping from his forehead behind his glasses as he saw the scene of his parents' murder again.
For the first time, the resolute Gryffindor doubted his own courage. Compared to Loren, who almost destroyed the Boggart, he was really too incompetent, unable to even last a single exchange.
Harry was reminded once again of the Sorting Hat's words, saying he was suited for Slytherin...
"Here you go—" Lupin handed him a Chocolate Frog. "Dementor, that's impressive. Your greatest fear is—fear itself. That's wise, Harry."
The chocolate warmed him up a bit, and Harry grinned, forcing a smile. "Thank you for your comfort, Professor. But I'd rather tame fear like Loren did."
"Occlumency," Loren said.
"Huh?" Harry turned his head and looked at him in confusion.
"I'm talking about Occlumency." Loren tapped his head with his index finger. "I didn't tame fear, but rather blocked the Boggart from peering into my brain. It can only see what I want it to see, so it's unpredictable."
"A novel idea!" Lupin praised. He could see that Loren's magical skills far surpassed those of other young wizards in his grade, and were even stronger than many adult wizards.
Lupin then changed the subject. "However, as a professor, I would prefer you to confront and overcome your fears rather than hide them."
"Professor, you're right." Loren agreed, chuckling. "So, could you lend me Boggart? I want to practice overcoming my fear."
Lupin paused for a moment, then burst out laughing, "Hahaha, not now, I still need it to teach other classes."
"And then what happens after the teaching is finished?"
"After I finish teaching, I'll have to ask Professor McGonagall. After all, it's a dangerous dark Magical Creatures."
"Then I will try my best to persuade Professor McGonagall."
Lupin smiled and shook his head, then turned his gaze to Harry, who looked dejected. "Harry, don't doubt yourself. Perhaps the Dementor have a special influence on you."
Harry lowered his head, his voice muffled. "I know, Madam Pomfrey said that Dementor are more likely to harm vulnerable people."
Lupin pulled him up from the ground and brushed the dust off his robes. "Harry, being easily influenced by Dementor doesn't mean you're weak. Dementor can evoke painful memories. People are different, and even with pain, some pain is more unbearable."
"But I can't keep hiding from Dementor forever, can I?" Harry was still bothered by the fact that he had been knocked out so quickly.
"Well, this—I think Loren can help you."
"Professor, you're talking about the Patronus Charm, right?" Loren quickly waved his hand to refuse. "Neither Hermione nor I are suited for teaching. We practiced every day, and it took us two months to barely learn it."
This little Witch can do that too?
Lupin glanced at Hermione with surprise, then looked back at Harry, who was looking down but glancing at him out of the corner of his eye. After a moment of contemplation, he said, "How about this, I'll discuss it with Professor McGonagall. Perhaps we can find some time each week to give you some special training so that you can master the Patronus Charm as soon as possible."
"Yes, Professor!" Harry looked up and gave a goofy smile.
Ron looked around. The other two had already learned it, and the other was about to learn it. Wasn't that just him left? "I want to learn too! I want to learn too!"
Hermione stepped forward and offered a suggestion. "Professor, why don't you just teach it openly in Dueling Club or the Club?"
"Dueling Club, club..." Lupin muttered to himself, "Professor Flitwick told me about it, but I'm not planning to start a club yet... and teaching the Patronus Charm publicly—that might be difficult."
"Give it a try, Professor," Loren encouraged. "You saw it at the opening banquet; other students from other years wanted to learn the Patronus Charm. Besides, Dementor are always roaming around the school, so the Patronus Charm is really necessary."
"Yeah yeah."
"It's absolutely necessary!"
"Don't rush, I need to think about it carefully, and I'll also discuss it with Professor McGonagall."
